Abbey Credit Cards won't let me pay bill with my debit card

First time I have encountered a CC customer service centre that does not take payment over the phone . I've been told to contact "my bank" and make a bill payment from there rather than give them the details of my debit card for processing

They gave me an alternative phone number which I called and it died

I tried the "web call back option" it put me through then cut me off

So I thought, call Fraud - funny enough they answered the phone immediately and then proceeded to say that I needed to go to my own bank as they only take payments over the phone if you have an Abbey Current Account.

I must added that I did issue a payment from my online banking and wait for it "the payment was returned to my account 3 days later"

Is this some conspiracy by the banks to make you late paying or so that can avoid the faster payments systems now being deployed they cannot hold onto your money long enough to earn interest...

I have spoken to customer complaints who are finding a way I can pay, until then I will make payment as and when I am passing a bank either mine or an Abbey

Had the same issue when I wanted to close my marbles account, no facility to process card payments over the phone

I cant believe you bothered to start a whole thread about which payment methods you can use to pay your credit card.

Even if you felt you had to, for some extraordinary reason, why the massive novel when the entore story is in the thread title?

Abbey will take debit card payment, but only if you're in arrears. Useless feckers. My last statement arrived on the Saturday before the Monday it was due - thank you Royal Mail - so obviously no way I could pay it on time. Naturally I rang them up but got the "go to your bank" crap. So I did (be amazed it was open on a Saturday). They did the payment but said it would of course take 3 days to process. My new statement arrived yesterday and of course I've incurred a late payment fee. Oh I'm happy with Abbey! Still £12 more and the card is paid off and won't be used again, tts.
