Kill It, Cook It and Eat It

Watched this last night; a couple of Turkeys were slaughtered and the process shown unedited...
While I got stuck into my chicken thighs, watching the TV show made me realise that I don't think I could do the killing part of getting such food to my plate.
Many people say they could and some people say, "if the circumstances were different...", for survival etc.
I once watched a goat being killed - it was no way as horrific as the Kosher slaughter of a cow and quite upsetting to see/hear a pig about to be turned into bacon...
Could you kill it and cook it?

If I had to, I would (I don't like veg so would soon starve to death). IF I can avoid it, I won't.I've killed stuff (we used to go shooting the rabbits that had mxymatosis (sp?) when I was younger, and I've gutted, plucked and then cooked pheasants. I've gutted and cooked fish. Come to thing about it I've skinned and gutted a rabbit too.

No problem with it myself as long as its done in the most humane manner possible. As a kid I worked part time on the game processing plant at the local farm. That involved, plucking, gutting, removing wings, legs and heads and packing. You soon get 'numb' to it and see the animals as a commodity rather than a living thing. The worse bit was the smell, particularly in the summer.

Isn't that verging on not caring you didn't wring the neck quite 'humanely'?Yeah I'd do it. I'm not sure I'd be very good at the gutting part (Apparently you have to be careful not to nick the bowel for obvious reasons) I've seen a chrismas turkey killed when I was a kid, and helped to pluck it, eaten fish I've caught. Eaten rabbit/woodpigeon my brother's shot. Shot one or two rabbits, etc. Obviously, given the chance of buying a pack of chicken breasts from the supermarket, or going out and killing my own, I'll go off to the supermarket every time.

Everything that came in had been shot, so effectively killed in the most humane manner. I did not mean that I didnt care about the animals just that you get used to it when you are dealing with lots of them rather than doing a one off. I was also exposed to this sort of thing from a very young age which I think helps. My father would go on shoots and the pheasants would be left hanging on the rafters in the garage to 'mature' which I would see.
Funny how you talk about manning up when you have killed a FISH and driven a knife through a Lobsters head.
Im sure you have stepped on some ants and bugs too...
Come on! That doesnt count.
Come back when you have killed something that is heavier than yourself. Its alot harder to kill something which is big, than tiny things like birds etc.
I think that if you are not able to kill and gut an animal or at least watch someone do it you shouldnt eat it.
But thats just me... Ok come on, im ready! Give me some grief for my comments...

I have killed it, I have cooked it and yes, i did eat it.
Either i eat and kill some little animal, or i starve and the stupid animal gets to live... fk that i'm not starving, can't stand the tree hugging tts who think its cruel ect to eat meat, yes you can live without eating meat, but seen as man has eaten meat for as far back as history knows, then i'll stick to what has been tried & tested thanks.
