Do i need to put L plates on a 50cc scooter if i have a full licence? (had licence for 16 years)

I've got a Yamaha JogRR that i use for pissing about town on. I don't have L-plates and i'm riding on a car licence, never had a problem.

Scooters are brilliant.

Dont get a 50cc get a 125.
A 50cc scotter will do a max of about 30-35mph with a fully grown adult on.
For the extra cash i'd say get a 125!

for a 125 you still need CBT, no matter what

But to ride a 125 you need CBT, L plates and can't take a passenger. A 50 is fine for pottering around town

If you're not too fussed about the looks a Peugeot Ludix is the same money as that Chinese bike but likely to be better built and more reliable, as well as easier to get parts for.

a cbt is not anything requiring a bike licence. Its a one day course costing typically under 100 quid that lets you ride up to a 125cc for 2 years, with L plates. Effectively a license to learn.

Youd be mental to ride a motorbike without at least some form of specific training, and a CBT is barely enough.

Just For clarification a Moped built afetr the 1st August 1978 should be limited to 35MPH anyway. Given the age of your licence you do not need L plates or a CBT to ride either type. Pre limited Mopeds are now highly prized and a decent one can be picked up for about £1000 to £4000.

speed restriction is currently 30/31mph not 35 though isn't it.

What even for a Honda 50cc crunchbox (steppy)?
'cos I had one. "R" reg. 1979? Effing fantastic machines and a great 4-stroke lazy engine. I always wanted the 90 with the side light just below the headlight.

Sold it to a mate of mine who got pulled as it was unrestricted - This was just after the changeover. Just a shame they all suffered from rust problems on the back mudguard close to the rear suspension. Common fault I think.

If you got your license before 2001 you can drive a 50cc automatically. If you got it after or want to drive anything bigger than a 50cc you need a CBT minimum.
