Is car finance suffering the same issues in terms of people being given the go ahead to borrow that the loan and mortgage sector is?

I presume this is the case but can anyone confirm?

I'm thinking of getting out of the current car and into a bargain while the market is weak for new sales, but not sure whether to get too excited without knowing that I will be able to actually borrow to buy something! Not talking alot of money.

Manufacturers finance companies have not tightened up lending criteria to the extent that the hight street lenders have. They rely on the finance to sell cars and to do so would be counter productive.

Some good rates at present too.

On the other hand the Non franchised lenders (GE, Blackhores, Alphera etc.) have tightened criteria and are charging more too.
