Original XBox games on 360

I don't have any XBox games, but want to get the old GTAs (3, Vice City & San Andreas) after seeing them on the thread.
Just wanted to know, do the games run off the disc (I see on xbox.com you need a HD to play original XBox games) or the HD?
I see you can buy SA on the marketplace but would sooner have the disc (off ebay or some such, for less), unless it's going to be noisy all the time!
It'd be ideal if you ripped the games to the HD like you can now!

They run off the disc. Just need the hard drive to install the emulation afaik.

Had a check on the backwards compatibility list and they should all play ok too.

Yeah I had a quick check on the backwards compatability list as well.
I think I may just get SA off the marketplace, I think I'd be deafened having the 360 run the game off the discs again!
