PS3 - is it always like this?
Discussion
I had a gap in my TV cabinet that was PS3 sized so naturally I had to buy one.
First impressions aren't good though. 40 minutes to perform the first system update. 40 minutes to update LittleBigPlanet before it would let me play it. After faffing around for nearly 2 hours total, I can finally play a game.
The controller doesn't charge when the PS3 is turned off, and the USB charge cable is ludicrously short. It didn't come with any form of HD cable.
Plus sides - BluRay is nice, and the built in wireless is good to have.
So my question - do all games force you to update when you put them in, and do they all take so flipping long?!

Not always, it depends on the game ie how long it's released and whether they have had the need to do any updates. When an update is released I usually turn mine one in the morning or early afternoon and it always downloads faster than in the evening.
Also if you haven't had your PS3 online before or in quite a while, it will naturally want to do the latest firmware updates.
re: the controller, it is a stupidly short lead but it takes no time to charge and 20-30 mins charge will usually last me a week or so.

some updates take 5 minutes, some take ages. depends on how much there is.
ps3 has more room for update and improvement than the xbox does so when the xbox finally goes to the gaming console heaven, the ps3 will still be running full steam ahead.
some game updates take a while, some don't.
it's not the end of the world if there is an update is it?

Obviously all the things I experienced with my PS3 aren't true. I made them up just to besmirch the reputation of the mighty PS3, and you have exposed me. I feel such a fool now.
Quick, post some more reasons why the PS3 is better, then accuse me of being the fan boy.

The other thing is speed of connection - all very obvious - but I have been at a mates who was on a research connection and it look seconds for a 1.2gig demo to download and his updates were stupidly quick.
Hopefully going forward updates will get quicker and quicker... rather than increasing in size with the new speeds ala windows updates and the like

Once the 360 goes to gaming heaven, it will mean we will have a new Xbox to play with, which will make the PS3 the equivalent of the 360 vs the PS2. So it may be going full steam ahead still, but it will be a last gen console, so why would you want one ?

Why do PS3 owners always jump on the defensive and start s
gging off the 360 ? Especially when the OP mentioned nothing about a comparison at all ???? It seems they have some sort of complex with the 360, maybe an inferiority one ??
I would agree with the OP though, PS3 or Xbox, if I had time on my hands to play a game, then it would annoy me if I had to sit there waiting for updates, that in your own words, can sometimes take ages. Luckily, any major updates to the Xbox have always been done within minutes and any game updates are done in seconds.
At least it is easy to see why a 360 owner would get the hump if they went to a PS3 and suddenly had to wait 40 odd minutes for an update !!
What do you mean by more space for update ? IIRC, PS3's largest drive is 80gb, the largest 360 one is 120gb, that's 50% more for the Xbox as far as I can see ??

Well my PS3 is 160gb and my xbox is 20GB. Yes PS3 updates can be annoying if you buy a game "late" but hey, once done its a great console. If fact one of the reasons I bought the PS3 over other Blueray players was for exactly this reason, live online updates to keep the operating system fresh.
Dobbo, my PS3 online tag is same as xbox one if you wanna add.
Too late - already got LBP with the console! Also got Tom Clancy's Endwar which I'm going to trade, and a bluray remote which I'll whack on ebay as I've got a Logitech Harmony for those duties.
Civ - I'll add you once I logon to the PSN thingy. I avoided it last night for fear it would involve another 45 minute wait!
