"From a very surprising yet highly reliable source, we’ve got the most likely and realistic Gran Turismo 5 release date! Sony’s chief executive in southern Europe, James Armstrong, revealed in a statement to Spanish newspaper El Financiero that we can expect the game to arrive (in Europe, at least) Christmas 2009. Here’s the full translated quote:

For next year, the chief executive of Sony Computer Entertainment for southern Europe said that they are developing a new game thriller, in which the player may be designing their own history, and the new version of Gran Turismo, which will arrive at Christmas"

Personally I think it is a bit of a piss take for it to take so long, especially as 1/2 the cars are special editions of other cars with different paint schemes....

its got to have some detail in it, id think that sony and the designers must think themselves, this is a must to pull off, as easy could be a big disapointment, they must be confident

This is a joke now.
Sony deserve to have their thunder taken away by Microsoft.
This is the game I am waiting for to buy a PS3 (and I am a 360 owner!).
The only thing messing with Microsoft is the idea that Turn10 are dong PGR5 and have forgotten Forza3 (what I am really waiting for).

GTPlanet prompted a flurry of media reports after we first discovered an SCEE executive’s comments on a Christmas 2009 Gran Turismo 5 release date. Unsuprisingly, the story has rapidly spread across the web, making its way right back to Sony where it originated. From a statement to VideoGamer.com today:

“Polyphony are working on GT5, but we cannot confirm a launch date at this point in time,” said a Sony Computer Entertainment UK spokesperson.

This, of course, isn’t surprising, given that Mr. Armstrong’s Christmas ‘09 prediction was either revalation of internal company expectations or his own personal prediction. Only time will tell!
