Passat Fuel Gauge Jammed???

Anyone had this before and know if it's a simple or expensive fix?
It was showing empty one minute (although I knew there were about 3 gallons left) then full then stuck on about half full.
Filled it up hoping this would dislodge it, which it did, but 200 miles later and it's still showing full...
It's a 2003 V6 Tdi manual.
Anyone????
