Not a bad race. There is an awful lot of Schumacher bashing. Personally, I think as a bloke he's not that bad, it's just the bunch of dandys like the FIA that pander to his needs (like todays incidents, did he get penalised? - no!) that make him look like the baddie, oh and don't start me on Todd and Brawn, they are the real arseholes.
I think also, he appears to have been going at it 100% this year and just winning by a small margin as opposed to previous years when it appeared he put mediocre effort in and completely romped through the championship.
I would say it's probably fair that he wins this year and deserves to (don't get me wrong, I'm a McLaren fan NOT a Wuurawi fan), plus I think he is a particularly exceptional driver.
Just my 2p

seconded Mrs Fish, he might be arrogant and generally a bit of an arse, but you cant deny he is the ultimate in terms of his focus, commitment and skill to win
I don't even see him being 'a bit of an arse' arrogant well maybe but aren't alot of these sportsman whatever they do, arrogant? Personally I find Montoya far more arrogant and an arse, now him I can't stand
Nowadays I think MS is a reasonable bloke. He has matured and is more at ease with himself and is desrving of his record 6th title. His problem, particularly in Britain, is the historical baggage associated with him. The clashes with Hill and Villeneuve, the allegations of cheating at Benetton etc al sullied his reputation in his earlier career. I think he has now risen above all that and rightly takes his place alongside Nuvolari, Fangio, Clark, Moss, Stewart et al.

Schumacher deserves to win the championship as he won more races than anyone else. The new points system is a joke - only giving two points less for second place.
So you can regularly be the first of the losers and still win the championship - and Raikonnen very nearly did !
Besides, Shumacher still seems genuinely chuffed everytime he wins.
The mclaren boys, in contrast, hardly raise a smile and Raikonnen seems like an animatronic version of a race driver.
Oi ! You get paid millions to swan about , race fast cars, and own your own jet. Smile for gods sake !!!

the same old remarks mrs f.
anyway well done to both micheal and his team. hopefully the other competitors in F1 can take a long hard look at what is required to win in the current F1 climate and adjust their gameplans accordingly. MoJo.
pwig, I thought you were staying up to watch the race? You can't come onto PH and not expect a loyal F1er to wait until lunch to brag can ya?
Sorry if this thread ruined your F1 Sunday by the way but a live sporting event is best watched LIVE! ESPECIALLY F1!!!!!!!
**All top athletes have to have huge degrees of self confidence. It's what separates the good from the great. No confidence = crap performance. Sometimes high levels of confidence does come across as being extremely arrogant. This however, is what gets you and keeps you at the top. Agree with the comment that Michael has seemed less arrogant as he has matured. I put that down to him having nothing to prove anymore. Just about smashing records now.

1994 actually.
Part of Schumacher's perceived "arrogance" was as much down to his limited English in the early days. When you listen to hom today, his English is excellent and full of coloquial idioms etc which makes him sound much less severe and direct.
I too was incensed with what he did to Hill in 1994 although what he did to Villeneuve in 1997 was even worse. At least the 1994 had an element of doubt as to whether there was intent or not. In 1997 there was no doubt - it was deliberate, and he was punsihed by the FIA, although not harshly enough in my opinion. But that is rather ancient history now and I now judge him on his behaviour and achievement today.

It's not Schumacher himself that offends me, more the whole Ferrari 'machine'. I haven't been able to take them seriously since they wasted a trillion pounds on a titanium gerbox casing then whinged when the (FIA approved) McLaren and Williams 'inside wheel braking device' made them quicker. Strangely that device was quickly banned When F1 is won by cash over innovation it's a sad old world.

I dont agree with the Villenueve view of things.
The onboard shots taken from shumachers car show things a little differently from the trackside cameras.
In actual fact, (if you bother to look at the footage) schumacher was actually in front of jaques when he went into the corner(onboard view) an jaques pulled across and into the side of shumacher.
Far and away to much "i ate im, e's a german" nonsense.
The guy deserves to win: hes the most consistent and skilled driver out there today, dont knock him for that.
deltaf - it's academic what you (or I) thought about the move on Villeneuve in 1997. The FIA decided that it was incorrect and duly handed out a punishment to Schumacher. Toothless and meaningless it may have been, but it at least acknowledged the fact that the governing body had decided Schumacher was in the wrong.
Watched the entire race and I liked it.
Those overalls Kimi and David wore during the press conference looked quite funny. Made Kimi even more robotic.
A big difference with the Postrace press conference of the Malaysia MotoGP during which Valentino Rossi, who secured his third consecutive worldtitle, won the wet T-Shirt competition hands down.
Don't think that McLaren will ever get their act together.
