wavey all,

This forum isn't my usual haunt, but I'm hoping some of you here might be able to help me. I have some time booked with my tattooist in three weeks and I now need to try to capture some of the ideas in my head into some kind of visual format to throw to him in order to begin a design.

I've been hunting around the internet, but I'm struggling to find any non-tattoo related pictures that I can pull inspiration from. The problem is that I'm not actually too sure what pictures I'm looking for...(!)

Whether they are your own, or you know where they're found, can you please point me in the direction of examples of;

- Vibrant, really bright colour forms.
- Wind shapes. Or any shapes/forms that 'flow'
- I don't even know how to articulate this one, but close ups of veins, leaf 'veins', butterfly wings...
- Images or shapes of an organic nature.
- Pictures that feature the two extremes of the light spectrum; really dark sections through to light aspects.
- Interesting use of shadows/field of depth.

The intention of this piece (a full arm sleeve) is to have something that has a bright colour palette integrating - flowing - together (with some darker shades/lines to break it up) with an abstract elements of detail/depth.

Sorry if I'm being vague. But at this stage I've just a collection of thoughts that I can't seem to find pictures that I can point to and say 'that bit!'

Thanks in advance. Hopefully you can help. smile

Don't be daft, cancel the appointment with the tattooist until you actually know what you want. They are not bloody psychics, and can't be expected to draw out ready to ink your obscure and inarticulated vision. Rebook it for 6 months time, and you MIGHT have had enought time to formulate a more precise idea of what the hell you want.

Wise words! I completely agree. If you go in without being 110% sure you'll end up regretting it for the rest of your life!

Probably worth pointing out GI_Jnr has a good relationship with his Tatooist thanks to many many hours spent together working on his existing designs. I'll leave him to share those if he wants to.

GI - get yourself over to deviant art and search for the kind of keywords you've mentioned, this might give you some ideas - vibrant, wind, etc.

Thanks for the wise words/concern. As _Dobbo_ posted, I'm wearing a over 40 hours of ink already and so I'm well versed in the pitfalls of not having matured ideas. The reason for posting is really to tap into what's out there in the non-tattoo world as source material. The vibrant website for example - never knew it existed.

Ben - feel free to post any. I would do it myself, but I don't know how... boxedin

Have you had a look on Flickr just searching for those type of words:

vibrant

flow

veins

Hope this helps,

Conrad.
