I've just booked my Chimp in my nearest, main TVR dealer, about 40 miles away (I wont name them yet).

Who have always worked on my car, servicing, and everything... for them to sort out a Power steering leak.

Knowing main dealers, it's probably coming to cost £100 - £150.. And have just been told they are now starting to charge for the collection & delivery of my car. I've never been charged before...

I'm not sure how I feel about this. I can see their point in that it cost's them money, in terms of petrol. But they are looking at £60 + VAT. And that's before they start to charge me the £50 labour per hour... But on the other hand - they are getting my business

Does anyone else get charged for this.. (Anyone local to MK, who is good at Trev fixing..?)

Its a bit of a cheek isnt it?

My dealer charges for collection and delivery at something like £10 per mile, which is why I dont use it. They also charge for a courtesy car which I also feel is beyond the bounds of reason. Its not like TVR's have 100,000 mile service intervals, they know they will get the business every 9 months or so in my case.

Matt.

Hmm,

I think most of them charge for pick-up. My main dealer is HH and likewise its a good 40-50 miles. Thing is you're a bit buggered when you can't physically move the car (ie my water pump gasket went).

Show your disgust by going to a dealer who doesn't charge you (if there is one)

Isn't this the point of AA/RAC membership - you can get your car recovered to your nearest dealer?

Take care that you have the right sort of cover: sometimes they'll only want to tow you to "the" nearest dealer, not necessarily "your" nearest dealer or "your chosen" dealer.

Also, if it goes wrong on the driveway of your house and you don't have "home start" in your package they won't take it. Best to push it round the corner before calling them!

I don't think you can expect TVR dealers to lay out for a hire car and someones wages/petrol for free every time the car goes wrong. They're in business after all. The more reliable the brand the better the service will be for those that need it. Otherwise the continual cost will be added to all new TVR's in the first place. Probably be 5k more to cover everyone all the time.
