Happy Thanksgiving my fellow 'mericans

I didn't want to spend all day cooking tomorrow so I roasted my bird tonight, stuffed it with quartered oranges & Granny Smith's. Also got the Giblet stock ready for making turkey gravy with pan juices..

I've already sampled the wing tips and a drumstick , figure I'll hover somewhere between the stovetop & the idiot box tomorrow.
Make anyone hungry?

Only takes max 3 tries to get 10 yards if on offence.
On defence we only have to stop them 3 times for a turnover.
Calgary won the Grey Cup last Sunday so our guys can now go to 6 Flags not Disneyland as the Grey Cup doesn't get the media attention that the Super Bowl does.
Huskies didn't do good when I spent time in Lynden and Bellingham xx years ago. Now I'm aging myself. We crossed border lots to go to Skagit Outlaws and Friday night high school ball games. Was amazed at the attendance of the high school games. Tried to buy a house outside Lynden but Yank banks wouldn't touch me as I worked in Canada and our banks had no collateral as the property was in the states.
Check out my playtoys on my profile page. Made sure I got away from work early enough to do paperwork close to the TV if you get what I mean. Will be thinking of you Yanks tonight eating your big juicy Toms as I try to choke back some of my daughters pasta. All the best and enjoy the games and Friday shopping.

The basic story, whose details are widely disputed, is that the initial colonists arriving in the US couldn't feed themselves as their European agriculture didn't work. They were lucky and learned about native agricultural techniques and crops from Native Americans. They grew corn and survived. They were really happy about it (understandably) and held a feast - around and about the sort of time the European Church would have been holding a special thanksgiving service of a Sunday.
Our "Thanksgiving" is in November too. It's held after the main harvest crops are gathered.
The American holiday is, however, unique to them as it is a Thankgiving for survival in a new and, at that time, inhospitable land.
There's a LOT of writings on the matter. Not all complimentary it has to be said as, of course, relations with the native population didn't stay as cordial throughout history.

I looked at your "toys" on your profile page the other night. I went to Jr.High and played club soccer with a lad who's dad had brought a couple of TVR's down from Canada in the mid 1970's..Happy belated turkeyday V8TVR..

I grew up in Everett, Wa and lived in south Seattle for 7 years before I left Washington 5 years ago. I used to run up to Skagit County most summer saturdays when I was in high school, as I was on the pit crew for a sprint car that ran the dirt track in Elger and certainly miss the across border forays to ski Grouse Mountain and Whistler/Blackcomb!!I always enjoyed riding the lifts and chatting with Canadians!
