Hi all.

I've done some portraits at one of my mums friends nursery in Hale, Manchester.I think the quality of the images in spot on, i'm really pleased with them.

To save the faff taking orders i want to bung 2-6x4's and 1-7x5 in a strut mount and give them back to her to sell as a pack.

How much do you think i should charge for this? What's the going rate?

Cheers

Rick.

You might not save yourself the hassle of order taking if parents want multiple copies to send to relatives with their New Year newsletter...

I did a similar shoot at a parent and toddler group recently. Was there for an hour (the group paid for my time). Felt uncomfortable asking more than £2 for a single 6x4 but each parent took one - one mum took 15 (with a bit of a discount).

As a result of this session, they've booked me for some Christmas fun days they're doing - they'll pay a fair hourly rate for my time to include every parent getting a 7x5 print, and I can charge £2-7 for reprints in varying sizes.

So, back to the original question, I reckon for 2x 6x4 and a 7x5 you're looking at somewhere between £7-9. That also seems to fit in with the likes of school photo packages at, iirc, £9-14 with a range of quantities and sizes

My sister in-law's daughter's nursery had a photographer in and the cheapest thing on their price list was £25 yikes for the image on a CD-ROM The 'standard' package they were trying to push was £50 for a couple of large mounted prints, a selection of smaller sized prints and a desk calendar. And the photo's were totally crap too!

I've seen school photographers charging similar too - nice work if you can get it...

Hi Parents, Please choose just one image to be printed as your pack photo, the packs are again priced at just £25 and contain 1 x 8 x 12, 2 x 6 x 9, and 2 x 5 x 7.5 sized prints, a donation from each pack sold goes to your child's nursery.

That sounds familiar... Our nursery photographers were charging I think about £20 minimum for a 7x5. Though I think that's the expensive end of the scale. The school pics were refreshingly inexpensive by comparison - I think 7x5s started at about £6 or £8.

Our nursery was looking for around £25 iirc for an A4 folder containing one 10x8, two 7x5's and a few dinky pics.

rex and I actually do this on a regular basis - www.matabooboo.com - we started out because the pictures we got back of his and my kids from our nursery 5 years ago were pants.

We book out a hall for a day, and book 30 min sessions at £10/pop, with the £10 going to the nursery funds.

After that, we put approx 30-40 images per session/family online password protected.

Prices start at about £5 for 6x4 or 5x7 and £15 for 10x8.

TBH, most popular is either buying one digital image for £15, or the whole lot on CD for £150.

About 40-60% take the CD option, making it worthwhile.

While initially we didn't want to sell digital images, we found that on average we made about £30-£70 /family, whereas now by offering CDs at £150 (the price of 2 framed 5x7s at Venture!!!) we have raised that substantially. People rarely come back 6 months later for reprints, so you have to get them just that one time...

I suggest you offer them the image itself for £10-£15, which they can then do what they like with, in that kind of environment you'll make more cash in the long run and people are very happy with a bargain.
