What to do in Peterborough (Waiting for passport)

I'll put my hands up, I'm officially an eejit (I refer you to my Ambulance thread) but I have a family emergency that necessitates a trip to France - however, my passport has expired and I need to go and get a passport in the next few days from Peterborough (Joy).

So I'll be hanging around Peterborough for a few hours for the passport - question is though - what is there to do there for 4/5 hours? More importantly, is there somewhere where I can go for 4-5 hours and surf pistonheads??

Err best way to kill 5 hours in Peterborough would be 1 hour train to Kings Cross, 3 hours mooching around London then train back.

You're within walking distance of the cinema and the indoor pool, or the town centre for a spot of shopping. What would you prefer to do and I'll tell you what's about and how to get there. Only lived here for 43 years

Walk round, have a look and thank god you don't live there.

When I had to do the same for a passport it was ready after two hours, even though they said it would take four. You might get lucky!

Shopping sounds like a plan as I could do with finishing up the Christmas shopping - what's the shopping like in Peterborough?

Cinema is an alternative plan as I could always go and watch the Bond film or something....

I just want to kill the time without doing my usual trick of eating everything in sight (When I get bored, I eat. A lot).

There is a massive shopping center and town center just down from the passport office.

You cant miss it. Its called Queensgate and is pretty good and outside in the town is good for shopping as well.

Back in September I went back to the car and slept for 4hours...I'd got up at 0400 to drive across from Chester after booking an appointment at 2330 the previous night.

No. just go to the desk in the entrance and ask if it's done yet.

Shopping, typical blandola shopping centre (Queensgate) I'm afraid. All the usual department stores in there including John Lewis. There's a free museum which has some displays about the local Roman stuff. It's not that interesting but can kill half an hour if you're desperate.

There's parking right near the passport office (signposted as the market multi-storey car park) which is coin operated. If you come down on the train then you can walk to the passport office, it's easy enough to find from the train station.

IIRC This carpark is cheaper than the multi-storeies for an all day ticket.

I was there on Sunday with my mum and fiancee as we live about half an hour away from there.

We managed to spend the best part of 4 hours in Queensgate shopping (women & shopping eh!), but that was really hard work for me!

There is the cathedral to look round and as has already been mentioned, there is a big cinema within walking distance of the passport office (Showcase).

I got my passport sorted there a few years ago, killed the time by walking round the shops.

Remember your mp3 player, note down where the cinema and Queesngate are, and you should be fine. There is a pizza/pasta hut near the cinema if your hungry.

Failing all of that, if you go to the top of the queensgate multi story car park you can stare at the big mosque in the city centre! If thats your sort of thing that is!!

You can park in Bishops Road for £3.00 all day.

ETA: I'd still go for Northminster (Cattle market) if you're shopping as it's in between Queensgate and the Passport Office.

Get a taxi from Queensgate to the cinema. DO NOT WALK IT. Lets just say there are, from personal experience, some undesirables in that area. I wouldn't walk it in daylight, may be overcautious but a taxi is only a few quid. Can walk from cinema to Frankie and Bennies, Pizza Hut of McD's. Otherwise i would say Queensgate, gt the shopping done. I used to work in P'boro for years and got to hate the place, won't go there now unless i really have to.
