Heating oil price down

Just got a -pleasant surprise.

Last order end of September was 50.9 p / litre

Now quoted 36.6p a the dreaded 5% vat of course

How do you get on with oil? I'm looking at a property with a 2500l tank, 4 bed modern detached, developer reckons that will last 12-18 months?

Five bedroom detached new build - I have a 1000l tank and we need to fill it twice / thrice a year - would stack up...

Just about to buy a 4 bedromm house with Oil fired Heating and Oil Aga!!!

So if 2500 litres should do the heating and the Aga uses 40 litres per week I would look at a budget of 3500 litres per year = £1,345 whihc doesn't seem that bad!!!!

We get through about 2000 litres a year. 25 year old 4-bed, with new double glazing. The insulation in the loft could do with beefing up, and the boiler is the same age as the house, but 85% efficient. Last owners went through 4000 litres a year because she was at home all day in the week.

ETA - we've got a new woodburner installed this year, so we're experimenting with a lower overall house temperature, but keep the the lounge warmer with the woodburner.

We have a 2500 litre tank , we dont have a choice with the oil as there is no gas in the area and the gas board wanted in excess of 32k to provide us

We use a rediculous amount of oil , but we both work from home so it is on from 7am to 10pm flat out .

The 1200 litre top up I had 6th October has more than gone so we use about 180 litres a week during winter , but it is an old large property.

I had a 4 bed detached and it stung with the price going up, one of the resons why i sold it rather than buy the ex out.

When we bought i brimmed the tank at 17.9ppl, when we sold the new owners brimmed the tank that day before completion and it cost them over 40ppl, and that was Jan '06.

It used to be (Poss still is) 17½% VAT if more than 2,300litres purchased, (beware those with a 2,500ltr tank).

Funnily enough my window cleaner asked me today why they(the developers) hadn't fitted LPG? Surely it's cheaper & more efficient than oil?

Four bed bungalow, use one tank (1000 l) per year, but I have the heating switched off from April to October (March to November if I can manage).

I had to fill up when the price was at 50p/litre, I would have been able to wait one more week but not until now.

thats exactly what we have done

We have a 25 yr old 5 bed detached and use 1800l of oil per year last fill was £900 !!! I'm at home all day as well

The log burner means the central heating boiler doesnt kick in at all bound to save money although we only run it occasionally mainly weekends or when its really cold , most of our hot water is on economy 7 the oil boiler is a combi and just runs the kitchen and a guest bathroom

Mine was 41.28 in October and 59.8 in May!!

Useful info on the price through Total Butler. Many of us use oil, so pricing information is always welcome.

Why thank you. Funny how you guessed who my current supplier is. Those feckers filled mine up last week, just looked at the bill...52.95 pence per litre + VAT.

I think they'll be getting a phone call tomorrow.
