Great pics! i really like the last one. Wondering what shutter speed ect was used and is it two layers with diffrent exposure? I've done loads of off camera stuff but generally long exposure walking about with a flashgun.
here are some of my attempts

wish I had a synchro flash how much are they/ what do you look for when buying them?

Great shots there neek, the lot of them. I keep retyping which couple I like best but then think it would detract from the others, which I also think are great smile

Edit: Sod it.. the first 3 work really well. I especially like the fact that 2 and 3 its quite subtle and just "works". I think a tighter crop on #1 would be fab (imho of course biggrin)

Charnock, syncro flash can be quite expensive if you want to do it proberly (with pocketwizards), but just to experiment, get some triggers from Gadget Infinity and have a play around.

I just bought one SB-600 and am hoping to get either another or a SB-800 for christmas. You do need to have CLS on your camera though and the range isn't great during the day.

As for exposure, I normally set the camera to F11 and select the shutterspeed for the sky or an overall exposure for everything (so pretty much what I want.

I'm not sure if any of this is the best way to do things, as I have never had anyone teach me how to do use studio light correctly, but I like the pictures, so I'm happy.

Oh yeah and one last thing, I was never able to get photos like yours using the test button, are you using a way of softening the light?

Thank you for the information George, I was able to figure out from it what kit I would like or will buy. I usuall have an exposure of 30 seconds and then quite a bit of aperture on so I have time to run around the cars like a mad man with the flashgun, nothing to difuse the glow but often 10 or more flashes. I like the picture but want to be able to do stuff like you are doing during the day with sky or scenic stuff in the background. I cant do any off-camera flash unless its very dark so its time to buy a remote triger, did not reallise they were so inexpensive.

Doesn't the d300 allow you to remotely control a SB600 - that is to say do you actually need a remote?

thanks CAB

If you're talking about off camera lighting for cars, I don't think an SB600/800 will have enough power for daytime stuff..... should be useable at night for reasonably brightly coloured cars though (black/dark blue needs a lot of power to light properly).
