Empire: Total War coming soon 6th Feb 2009
Discussion
Oh yes, after Rome and Medieval it's Empire. Building up a world empire starting in 1700 with new sea Battles using a new 3d engine and land battles of the 18th/19th century style Napoleonic/American War of Independence period. Brilliant! (must be said like Paul Whitehouse from the Fast Show)
I'd completely missed anything on it till now. Can't wait.

I think I have done Medieval to death now and need a new challenge
Have you installed the English Civil war mod for Medieval 2? Just installed it today and started a campaign, all roundheads and royalists battling around Britain.http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=20...

I have been looking forward to this for a long time. I'm taking a break from the Total War series at present, but this should get me playing again.
The franchise has been long overdue both sea combat and a new period in history. Medieval 2 whilst a good game suffered somewhat by familiarity with the various factions from the first game and also from a lack of unit variation.
What the Total War series needs ABOVE ALL is harder factions to play as. If you can win fairly comfortable as any faction at the highest level of difficulty it diminishes replayability.
The most fun I have had in the last few years with the Total War franchise is winning playing as the Western Empire in Barbarian invasions.
What is needed therefore is playable factions that are allot weaker than the rest (which would match to history). Instead of the Medieval 2 approach of similar starting strengths

Have you edited the descr_strat.txt file in the data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign folder to move unlockable factions into playable?
I don't move the non-playable ones as they can crash the game (did one Rome) but might work on Med2 as everyone has an army when you fight them.
