Not really a rant or a moan, just after other peoples thoughts before i make a rash descision.

The company i work for, isnt exactly what you'd call well organised at the best of times.

I work in sales, we take all incomming ad sales for the programmes we design and produce for football and rugby clubs nation wide. We also pitch to clubs which are not already on our books, as well as print tenders for pretty much anything.

This was what i was supposed to do, within my job criteria.

However, since being here, 16-17months now, i've had to go out collect cash from clubs as the MD didnt want to pay for G4 (im talking about walking around QPR with a bag full of notes totalling 20k)

Go out and meet the SD on the road and drop off things he's forgotten to take.

Deliver programmes when drivers have gone AWOL

Recently i've also got heavily involved in the print side of things as well, properly in at the deep end praying i dont fk up, everyone doesnt think anything of it though even though i have aired my concerns and have gone out of my way to learn as quickly as possible.

I'm doing all this, i like getting envolved in the print as it could see me in a better paid job, however there's only so much stree one person can handle.

Now coupled to this, i get a call this morning from the SD saying the MD has decided (after sacking the subscriptions manager last week) that we will be also taking on subs renewells for Arsenal as well, this is a massive job in its self and it will be permenant.

I'm really considering sacking the whole lot off and joining the Army (see the TA thread) i'm totally pissed off with it now.

Am i over reacting? any suggestions at all (apart from the usual piss taking)

I'm not getting paid any more to do any of this either!!

I reckon you job desciption says any other duties as and when required.

Also if you could let me know what time you are next in QPR with 20k, I'll guarantee you won't have to do it again.

Do you have an opening for a union rep?

As it sounds like you could be the man for the job.

Get a job in Education. Its great!

I spend my days hanging out with students, organising parties, sorting peoples (mostly trivial) problems, designing posters and networking with some cool people who give me great discounts on stuff.

Its called "Student Development Coordinator".

The pay is crap, but its fun fun fun!!!

You sound like you should be in a union.
My job is to develop engines, in the past I've shredded shed loads of paper and even mopped the floor.
You can either do the jobs they want you to do, or you can look be unhelpful and get remembered for that.

I'd would've taken the 20K and run.

Wouldn't be hard to work out your company so probably not the best way to negotiate a payrise posting here.

Read your contract not job title, if they are making unreasonable demands on you outside your contractual obligation then you may have grounds for a constructive dismissal claim after leaving. I would imagine though you either need to talk this through with your boss or look elsewhere.

You'd be happy doing 3 peoples jobs as well as being expected to hit targets and still get the same rate of pay?

Your company accepts £20k in cash no worries? How would you bank that without money laundering coming into play?

Or does it pay for the bosses drinks and petrol

Well you are right in the assumption that I don't know him.

However, I wouldn't be messing with him. I be stealing from you. Nothing personal like, just a straight forward inner city mugging.

I'd suggest joining the army if it restricted your internet access.

I have read my contract, it doesnt say anything about doing anything else other than sales!

Dont get me wrong, everytime i have been asked to help, i have, ive even gone out of my way, it just seems that they are asking more and more of me and taking the piss, i've spoken to both operations manager and the SD as we are good mates, the other guy in sales is also thinking about jumping ship.

Probably, alot of it is in cash, thankfully we now use G4 after alot of moaning from the FD. Some games we take 250k in cash, people dont buy programmes using credit cards...

I've had this scenario in every job I've ever done.

Personally, I think it's a very healthy thing to step 'outside the box' on a regular basis. It broadens your spectrum of skills and confidence and develops your future prospects.

You need to be careful though as more often than not, people will take your percieved enthusiasm for granted and expect you to 'do it' when it's not actually in your remit.

It can be used as leverage when negotiating renumeration adjustments though.

Today I am also the receptionist and doing a load of shredding. And also fielding 10 phones that have been put through to me as noone else is about.

Its life isn't it - someday someone will take on your duties for you. Swings and roundabouts.

If you don't like it, get another job.

I'd suggest that you just be thankful you have a job at all at the moment.
