Serious question, is it just a slang name, or is it more up there with the P and N bombs?

Like anything else it's offensive if the person/people hearing it feel offended by it.

I'm half 'Kraut' and to me it's no different than calling someone who's from Liverpool a Scouser or calling a gayer a Puff.

Its all namecalling...couldn't give a fk TBH

I dont think it is (speaking as an Irishman), but in Germany your not allowed to say "Nazi" or own or display a swastika.

Whats the point of that?

Just texted my brother in law as he's German.

His response: better than being called Fritz.

I work with a German lady, she calls me an insel affen(island monkey) and I call her a Kraut. Theres no malice involved, its just harmless banter.

I also get to use the "you started it" "no I didnt" "yes you did, you invaded poland" line when having a mock argument, and she always falls for it hehe

Also from that link I just learnt:

During the Hundred Years War the French took to calling the English les goddams because of their frequent use of expletives. hehe
