Re read the letter - it says your new salary is £2k, not that you've got a £2k increase

Lucky you don't have a manager with a sick sense of humour. I had a similar thing done to me, well except it was from a phonecall. Bearing in mind this was around 2001 during the dotcom fallout, axes being swung, cardboard boxes ..

5pm on a Friday, phone call from a meeting room on HR floor .. my stomach is churning as I walk to the meeting room wondering why they've left it so late in the week.

Just to perpetuate my misery my manager says 'i've got bad news for you' but then follows up with 'only kidding' - though he did a ticking off from HR. I've never left a meeting feeling so sick even though i got a juicy rise.
