There has been a lot of negatives regarding the reliability of TVRs and i want to add my 'little piece'.

My car has done 5,000 miles in the past 10months, bearing in mind that its been off the road for a fair percentage of the time with its respray, retrim and other bits and bobs.
I was told by David Batty that the car was very sound but as with all cars that hadnt been used for a while (2 years in this case) and had been laid up, then once you do start to use it you can expect the odd thing to go wrong and a few pennies to be spent.

He did tell us....as most people do on this forum, use it and it will become a reliable form of transport (read:Toy).

Armed with this info, we expected the worst. But we have indeed found out that it has been ultra reliable, never failed to start, never even a hint of letting us down.
Im a firm believer that these cars are meant to be driven, and driven well and in return it has rewarded us well.In short,it has given us much more than we could have expected
I suppose the fantastic summer also helped !

Well im off to go for a blast...after saying all this, i hope it starts.

Only kidding

Edited to say......not a problem

I second that Tony.
We use ours as a daily driver and it has been magnificent, I am fimly of the mind that the more you use it the better it gets.
Also, it gets bloody grumpy when we don't use it, we didn't use it for 3 days last week and when I went to go out, although it started fine it ran as lumpy as anything for the first couple of miles.
Just like a good woman, to get it to behave I had to grab it by the neck and give it a good old ragging to show who is actually boss.

P.S. Mrs .Mark gave me permission to add in the last line.

I'm going to keep my hand firmly on the nearest piece of wood, as I add that I've also been blessed with a TiV that has never let me down. I had to stop once to let it cool down, but that was after cruising for an hour at (somewhere around) NSL, on one of those summer days in the high 90 degrees.

I've done nearly twelve thousand miles in eight months.

Must also agree that I was very worried about the unreliability and costs involved. Have run my Cerb 4.5 everyday for the past 6 months and its never failed to impress. The only time I left it for two weeks (on annual leave) the battery went flat and I had to Jump start it.

Apart from that its been a 100% trouble free 6 months with on £15 spent on it in oil.

I spent the 1st 3 months not wholey enjoying the experience waiting for something to go pop but can honestly say I can now swith off any enjoy it.
One day something will go but the pleasure it has already delivered will outweigh whatever it is.

As long as its not a clutch engine rebuild he says with his hands firmly planted on my wooden desk.

Yep, all of ours have been good as gold. As well as my previous Griff and Tuscan.

Have to second everything said. Was a little cautious before buying my 1st TVR earlier this year but had to have one regardless. Now 7 months later it has been absolutely faultless, it lives outside and starts on the button every time and runs like a dream.

I've just bought a Chim which i'll pick in a week and a bit. Everyone says use them as an everyday car and their reliable, but mine will be a third car and driven really only at weekends. (not through choice, company car, four seats etc, and no a Cerb wont do,two doors)

What are they like for reliablity when their used infrequently. Are their any tips for keeping them sweet with such little use.

Mines only used weekends and stored in winter Evo. The trick is to keep it covered in a warm garage with the battery being trickle charged with whale music playing in the background they like that. A bedtime story goes down well they tend to sleep good then.

Joking apart. Just keep it away from the elements as mush as you can and start it up once a week for 10mins
driving it slightly forward and back to stop the brakes siezing. Use a dust cover if inside. WD40 all the moving parts. You can do no more....

Nearly 3 years of ownership, 22k miles driven, now has 76k on clock. No major probs, used nearly every day as only car but have a bike so it can get laid up for a few days. Also left for 2 to 3 weeks over holiday period. Always starts, (got a new battery a year ago). Reliable as anything else I've driven in the last 33 years.

Unfortunately our house is 200 years old and has no garage, did they not care about their horse and carts , anyway until we build a garage next year, the Chim will be living outside under a nice soft waterproof cover.

If I run it once a day for 10-15 minutes will it be benefical or cause more harm than good running it for such a short amount of time.
