Im now in the market for one of these. It must be able to run word and excel well and have bluetooth capability - I'm not so concerned about wi-fi. I like the ipaq's but the top of the range kit (which I can stretch to) is too bulky for me, size is important! 
I fancy the newer slimline 1940(?) with Pocket PC 2003 but am concerned that the 266 processor will not give enough ooomph. Does anyone run one of these and can recommend it or something similar?

I've just bought an Ipaq 2210 - its the middle of the range one. Has a 400MHz processor so is quick enough and has a great screen. All the reviews I read about the 1940 stated there was a yellow tint to the screen which put me off and it only has an SD slot. The 2210 is not much bigger and has both SD and CF slots. I bought mine for £310 which isn't much more than the £280 that the 1940 goes for. My main use is going to be in-car navigation and maps.

This is the model I recommend for people in my company - very small & useful as a diary, but if you're using for e-mail I'd say go for the 5550 which has an expansion jacket.

I've been running an Ipaq 3630 with 32Mb RAM, 233Mhz processor and a PCMCIA 5Gb HDD for years. I've also got a very old HP Laptop running Linux (was previously running XP Pro) with 233Mhx and 96 Mb RAM and don't have a problem with either for performance, but neither compare well against my latest laptop with 1Gb of RAM.
Just remember that PocketPC 2003 is a very stripped down OS and boots up much, much more quickly than a desktop version of Windows, plus you won't be using loads of graphics on the Ipaq - that's why my old laptop was slower than the Ipaq.
One point of note with PocketPC version of Excel is that it doesn't support all the functions - hex, dec, etc so becareful if you move spreadsheets between your desktop and Ipaq.
