Time lapse video?
Discussion
Does anyone have any experience of setting up time-lapse cameras to monitor a project? I've seen a few IP Webcams on the net for around £100, would I be able to plug them into my LAN, then rig up some software to monitor it?
I spoke to a specialist, but they wanted £2500 for install, then £1000/month to monitor it and send a monthly DVD to us!!!!

Ah yes, that's how it used to be in the good old days! I did a three-month timelpase for Blue Circle. It used 4 Olympus SLRs, vast quantities of 35mm film, specially-made timers with actuators, specially made housings and 4 car batteries. I visited the site twice a week to change film and batteries, then got all the slides processed, then transferred them to video one by one, then edited the video to give a final running time of 60 seconds.About £12,000 in all. Now you can do it with a Mickey Mouse camera from Maplins for £99.
Why not buy yourself one of the many digital video cameras capable of time lapse recording.
I have one that can be set to record at intervals from 1 sec to 120 sec. At 1 sec an hour of real time condenses to just over 2 minutes. At 120 sec, an hour of real time condenses down to just 1 sec on the tape.
Don't know what your project involves or how long you want to monitor it for, but this may be a solution for you.

ive used a nikon d40, hooked up to laptop running nikons camera control pro, which has a time lapse feature.
I could then log into the laptop remotely and check everything was running ok, download the photos, and even tweak camera settings.
When finished, i used motion to stich my photos into video- i think you can use after effects to do the same job. And you end up with higher than high def res video, which you can pan or zoom into- making it look like youve used an expensive time lapse motion rig!
