Austec Addiction
Discussion
I must say thanks to the chaps @ Austec for all the effort and care taken over my Griff
today.
I had a set of Magnecor leads, an air filter and several runs on the rolling road to get it set up right, the result 44 extra horses
at a very fair price.
The “Griffith grin” I use to have is now in danger of causing permanent facial damage and could be addictive
I am already considering the next upgrade, but what?
Do I have the pre-cats removed?
Or
Chip upgrade with fuel and ignition mapping?
Or
Triple Pellum
Or
The TVR wheel brake upgrade
Or…………
…………The permutations are buzzing around my head it’s as if I am a junkie looking for my next fix!!!!!
I will need to have a chat with the financial controller and see what size sack she will let Father Christmas carry this year, she would not be happy if it influenced the number of shoes & handbags he could lift!!
The dilemmas of TVR ownership (perhaps TVR’s should carry a warning a bit like cigarettes)
DRIVING THIS CAR CAN BECOME ADDICTIVE AND MAY INCREASE YOUR RISK OF DEVELOPING A PERMANENT GRIN

Good to see you've got the car where it should be, hated seeing you disappointed at the open day and glad you've now got it sorted, Paul knows his Tivs
.
Out of interest, was it always down on power or was it a gradual thing, I only ask that because to regain that much power overnight is as good as getting a new car and if you've never missed it you probalby now know what you were missing
.
I take it was a little more than a blocked air filter and a set of leads though.
BTW how much for the fully mapped ignition/fuelling

It seemed to be a combination of things: not getting full throttle, both electronically and mechanically; the ignition timing was out; and the fuel tank was not breathing properly.
As for the ignition/fuel mapping, @£400 for fuel, and @£6-700 for both (incl set-up time). Mmmmm tempting!!!!
As for the feel of the car, I have only had it a few months and as far as I can tell, it was like this when I bought it - what a difference now though!!!!

Don't post a response naming and shaming, but it doesn't say a lot for the last outfit that serviced the car really does it (assuming it was before you bought the car that is
). Can I assume that Austec may get your sevicing in the future then
.
sure about the ignition/fuelling price
, might have to give them a ring

Hi Crayden Nice to have met you at Austec yesterday. Paul and Mike are great aren't they...certainly know their stuff
See you Saturday afternoon
Edited to say hi Keithyboy...you parked up next to my Trev at Austec but shot off before I realised who you were!!

Glad to hear you're satisfied as my Griff is going to Austec in a couple of weeks for an MOT and a Rolling Road session so I'll have to post the BHP figures on here when I get them as I'm really looking forward to it.
I'm dead curious as to what the readouts will be as I've already had it up to 170 at Bruntingthorpe so it shouldn't be too short on power!! It's been running a bit rough lately though so hopefuly that should be sorted. Got a couple of other things they're looking at too so I'm pleased it's going somewhere local that has had so many good things said about them.
Cheers - Chris

The last run on the r/road was 270bhp but this was before the new filter was fitted the throttle position tweaked a bit more.
I was pretty happy @ that point as the car felt a lot crisper, quite buzzy actually
On the open road it was transformed.
The next step will be having the pre-cat removed I think pull the manifolds from the car myself and get Austec to do welding as we only have MIG @ work not TIG
I would be gutted if I ended up with a load of pigeon sh1t welding over the manifolds
.
Doing it this way should save some money for phase two
I think your right t-plenum and a re-chip sounds like the way to go.
Mrs Crayden has loads of shoes & hand bags anyway! But would we still be talking in the new year?
you know how it goes (so why are your chips & plums all broken then dear
)
Lots of sucking up required me-thinks

They've got my vote to! I dropped the Cerb in today, for a full service and MOT. A more agreeable bunch it would be hard to find. They gave the car a serious going over, including suspension Geometry. It now drives like its had new boots & panties fitted!!

On top of that I can still feed the kids this week!

Visited Austec myself for the first time on Saturday, see post above, and was very impressed.
Firstly I was very glad that the griff got through its MOT without any hassle and secondly, after having it on the rolling road I was chuffed to bits with the results.
285bhp at just over 5,000 rpm
330 lb/ft at 3,750rpm.
Spent the rest of the weekend driving it around everywhere because it goes like an absolute rocket now!!
Many thanks to Paul, safe to say I'll be going there again.
Cheers - Chris
