400d flash issues...

Hello all,
My 400d (well, actually a Digital Kiss X) has started refusing to pop the flash unless I manually pull it up at the same time. This causes the camera to shut down after 3 failed attempts.
Looking at it, it appears that the spring may be very slow now (it seems to take an age to pop up if I depress it and let go).
Is this a fault anyone else has had at all?
