Just a quick question regarding an issue that I noticed on another thread.
Basically we all know Gordon Brown is a total incompetant prik and I am glad to see he is now being held accountable for all of his previous year's tax raising sprees.... but somebody mentioned that he was scottish and they told the poster that they were being racist.

Now to the quick question.......... when did the scottish become a different race from the english, welsh, irish, french etc. etc ?

Just jesting a little with regards to the scottish extract from another thread.... but... what is now the definition of 'race' ?
The scientific terminology defines 'race' as being classed as Caucasian, Black, Asian, etc. etc.
(As used by the police etc.)

But I have now seen from a few threads on the internet that people are mixing up the term 'nationality' and 'race' ..... just wondering if this is to give a bigger 'impact' to their discussions ?? Or has science changed recently to classify 'race' as now being 'nationality'?

We all know that the term 'racist' is a bad thing.... and I know that proper cases of racism is !! ... but when the card is thrown around pruely for 'effect' then it undermines the true reasons why we have this word.

The problem with Brown being Scottish is the fact that an Englishman cannot be the leader of a Scottish party, so why whould a Scotsman be allowed to head an English one (let alone the country).

IMO its double standards. And with the scots hating England in general (tongue in cheek :P), surely Brown as another agenda! I mean, look what he's doing to our country!! LOL

And yes, I'm half English and half Scottish before you haters start whining :P

If being called Scottish is seen as a racist insult, then that suggests an inferiority complex amongst Scots.
Smoke, fire.

Somehow being called English just isn't the same. wink

It isn't a race.

But discrimination against a nationality is just usually tagged as racism.

Are there any "English" parties? Last time I looked the Labour, Conservative, Lib Dem's etc. were British. That includes Cornwall, never mind the pasty faced ginger whingers in England's most northern countybiggrin!

Indeed, but how can simply referring to someone by their Nationality, Scottish, be considered racist? It's not like calling them Jock or Sporranface is it?

I think race is an out-dated word, this is why we have these little semantic problems, Someone say from China and India would be classed as the same race (they are both asian) yet they are ethnically different, so i guess ethnicity is a more accurate description ?

Ethnicist doesn't quite have the same ring to it.

It isn't it is just the ultra PC-ers who don't want us to single out anyone. Unless they are a minority in which case they are allowed special treatment.

I don't see how or why we can be called a 'race'. I'm proud of being Scottish, but I'm also proud of being a Brit.

I support both Scottish and English teams at sport, in fact English more so in some sports wink

I wouldn't be offended at being called any of the associated names, Scottish or British.

Although I do have to add it is NOT a skirt.

So, if you call someone a Scotsman, you are being both racist and sexist?

No, it's not racist - it's xenophobia. This is something that the English are particularly good at, it usually manifests itself in silly derogatory names for other nationalities.

Most other nations have just one word to describe the English - W@nkers. Not that I agree of course.

This ridiculous forum is a prime example. Basically the Nigels hate everybody. Smacks of a deep seated national insecurity, if you ask me.

I don't see why the English are especially bad for this, in my experience people from other countries are a whole lot more xenophobic and openly racist than we the English are.

science just doesn't bother with 'race' at all, there isn't much scientific justification for it

the police etc use it just to try and give a vague description of someone's appearance, I don't think they do any genetic testing to try and track down everyone's ancestry

There's a surprise a Scot calling the English wkers :rolleye:

Very thinly veiled of course if you don't think why put it ,off the top of my head I can think of half a dozen different descriptions of the English used by other countries

Well why not get your half wit undereducated politicians out of our country, close your borders and see how your country fares without the income tax of the English being used to subsidise your country?
