I am designing a layout for a calendar ... nice and easy I thought, having done two already.

I have created the photo in photoshop, reflection on the bottom.

In illustrator, I have placed the file, and on the screen, it looks fine when the reflection is behind a grey filled text box, but when printed there is a white border around the image, white comes through (even through PSD had transparency).

I have tried using clipping path, and that gets rid of the border, but the rest has lost the fade to transparent.

Am I missing something?

I'm struggling to visualise what you are saying, but I would say that you should avoid transparency in Illustrator artwork. Commercial printers will likely reject it on these grounds. Probably the best thing to do would be to "flatten transparency" at the final resolution (ie 300dpi for typical print), or try saving as eps and bringing back into photoshop (complete with vector artwork on top) to see how Photoshop renders it.

Are you printing on transparent material? If not then why is your illustrator file transparent?
