Saw a flyer up on the local noticeboard in the village say they are trying to start up the neighbouring villages youth club again.

I was thinking of maybe helping out.

So do any of you help out with youth clubs? What do you do at the clubs? Do any of your kids go to youth clubs?

Last successful youth club I knew, was so because it had a park outside it that people could meet in, and smoke pot and drink.

they installed new CCTV everywhere and it died on its arse.. Maybe they are a dying breed, I cant remember ever going to one that was popular amongst the masses..

There's a local scout hut or something. Will be donating money to them in 2009.

I've been helping out at a youth club - it's not exactly arduous (just basically being there, and a bit of cleaning up afterwards) but quite rewarding. Contrary to what you may read in the right wing press, most kids aren't little scrotes; of course the ones that are make for better news stories. A couple of hours a week where they can meet their friends somewhere warm and safe isn't that hard to provide, really.

One thing though, I thought I was used to loud voices, but these teenagers, they really know how to make a lot of noise!

Hi, yes, I'm on the management committee of my local youth centre, PM me with an questions etc. I'm in the middle of setting up the centre's website so I'll post a link when that's live.

I used to help at my local youth club (I went as a youth too), and I'd recommend it! It can be quite rewarding, and doesn't neccessarily mean lots of effort - a couple of hours a week keeping a group of kids out of trouble! we sometimes organised trips out - bowling, ice skating, etc, even that wasnt hard work!. I convinced the club to get a table football, which went down well (and I got to borrow it over summer wink ) you'll need a CRB check tho.

I have been CRB checked before, I don't know exactly how it works. But needed to be done for electrical work at schools.

Sounds like fun.

You need a new one for everything you do with kids.

Even a teacher would need a separate one to work in a youth club not affilited to theis school.

I also help run our local youth club, and have done for nearly 5 yrs..
We are all volunteers!

Yes you have to be CRB checked....
Yes it is rewarding.....
Its good to get to know the young people in your area, and learn what interests they have.... you will be amazed!!

Your club should get affiliated with the area youth association and you can get free training in all sorts of areas, like first aid, minibus driving, NVQ in youth development, ETC, and get funding for some great trips... Its great for your own personal development too.

The young people will love it and you will be respected by them because you are not pre judging them.

It could also lead you into a new career!!

Good Luck!
