Ok maybe not the kgb but I am still pissed off.
My mum and dad have applied to change their current sun room into a conservatory. Just an upgrade from a plasticy lean to into a half bricked more attractive conservatory occupying the same space give or take about 3ft they are extending.
In terms of the new laws I would have thought planning permission was not needed.
However that is not my point.
My point is that somebody came round the house from building regs and spent two days taking pictures of every room in the house.
Obviously this is the addition to the database for council tax revaluation that is apparently NOT HAPPENING.
My poor old dad is 8o and has had a stroke and my mum is 74.
I was so pissed off the fascists had invaded their privacy and even more upset that they hadn't realised what was going on because no one informed them. The idiot even had to come back another day because he was so busy taking snooping pictures he forgot to check the layout of the electricity and water pipes.......

Yes, that's worrying. Ask the Council for confirmation. I can't imagine why they would need to photograph anything. Without wishing to scare, I'd double check security ligts etc., and remove any valuables that might have been on show that day. I will assume by the way the individual taking the photos had to come back to check utilities that they were a genuine council employee. I can only assume the photo's were to take before pictures in order to ensure all work completed was to current building regs. This gets around the 'it's been like that for years' defence.
The council has nothing at all to do with re-valuations of property that may or may not be happening. That is the remit of the Valuations Office Agency, an agency of HMRC.
Calm down and politely ask them why they have done this.

i think i would be down to the council offices and speaking to someone high up the food chain !
Sounds like an invasion of privacy. Did the person ask permission to tkae the pictures or did they tell your parents that's what they had to do.
Even so, I would definately demand an explaination and for all copies of the pictures to be destroyed. (A difficult thing to prove in this digital age.)
