Has Gordon thought whats going to happen when companies make redunancies and they fire UK passport holders and keep eastern europeans on the books? Has he thought how he will afford to pay benefits to all those migrant EU workers that will lose their jobs but are now entitled to jobseekers/income support. Looks like his plan has blown back in his face.

I can't stand GB as much as the next man but please.

You try getting UK passport holders to pick veg/clean/etc etc

I have no issue with LEGAL migrants as long as they work and pay taxes. If they get made redundant and have been paying taxes, they deserve benefits.

You try getting
Remove the welfare state and plenty of UK passport holders will be happy to pick veg/clean/etc etc.

However they might also stop voting labour.

Petty crime is probably an easier option.

And here's the rub -

The welfare state also stops the welfare class from burgling your house and murdering you on a dark night - an extreme case would be to look at South Africa with robbery and murder a common every-day occurrence on a grand scale, those folk have no government assistance.

The NHS helps keep the welfare state healthier than they would be - again, it helps keeps the peace.

What price peace and civility on your street?

I think the welfare state has to be there - but there is a balance between getting people into work and keeping order on the streets.

I'm actually with you on this. I live in Herefordshire and deal with a lot of people that employ migrants ( mainly polish ) and all i hear is good things about them. They turn up on time and get the job done and don't moan in the process. Now have a look at our youth/chavs and they seem to all think the world owes them a living! I'd prefer to kick these lot out of this country at the present moment.

Allow a man to protect his home with force then. If they rob, then they're shot - simple.

The welfare state allows them to breed and prepetuate their lifestyles. Remove it and you can slash the tax burden while increasing spending on law and order.

Remember without the welfare state there would be a smaller tax burden on business which would then be able to grow and hence employee more people.

The people of Singapore aren't robbed and murdered in their beds.

The olny real issue I have is wuth those Dossers who could do jobs but consider it beneath them.

I recall the documantry on TV when the Chav outside the dole office in Peterbouough was offered a job with (IIRC) a sensible wage, starting the next day.

He declined the job of picking crops as he " would rather claim the dole."

Regardless of origin or what passport they hold this attitude is whats wrong with the UK today.

Just don't get me started in illegals though!

Many of the migrant workers (Polish, and other Eastern European countries) came to the UK in order to make alot more money than they could at home. They would typically share rooms etc and save as much as they could. This would very often be in cash, since many UK employers of casual/temporary staff would see this as avoiding NI contributions/paperwork etc.

These people are now leaving the UK in droves because ofthe weak £. The £ is now nearly 30% lower against the Euro just in the last 12-15 months. They can get paidat least the same but probably significantly more in other European countries. Many of them are also bi-lingual. The Polish, Czech, Slovakian typically speak German, so they can easily find work there and get paid more.

The UK is seen as a temporary place by many to make a few ££ and the majority have no intent staying more than 2-3 years. They have a work culture that is much different to the majority in the UK. They are prepared to do a variety of jobs in order to have a regular income and aren't concerned about perceived status unlike many UK "workers".

My girlfriend is from one of the new EU Eastern block countries and she has managed 12 different jobs and she's 26. These varied from working in factories to personal banking. She's also got a good degree but this didn't mean she expected a certain salry or "level" of job when she left university unlike alot of the Brits (there was another thread somewhere about that I think).

If I was an employer, she would definetly get my vote based on variety and majority of work experience, togther with which she speaks 3-4 fluent languages which is normal in her culture.

How is it you only see Eastern Europeans working the fields?
What about all the feckless lazy lot from outside the EU.

I'm sure if the Eastern Europeans were to pay for a flat/house by themselves and not sharing ten to a flat they would soon come to the same conclusion as the Indigenous, that its not 'worth' toiling for 8-12 hours a day only for their hard efforts to be spent on housing and feeding themselves with little to show for it at the end of the week.
The economics of sharing make it viable for EE's, as the £/Euro has decidedly changed they will up sticks and head home.
So who is going to pick spuds next year?

I very rarely see any of the 'outside the EU' lot working the fields or sleeping rough, they are normally on the benefit system and play it for all its worth council/housing Ass properties, disabilities, HB, Council tax the whole nine yards.
The vast majority of homeless I see on the streets of London are British/Irish or ex Army and usually pissed up.

Need to be there to shoot the burglars, though, what happens when you are out at work?

I think they should carry out a swop culture, for every migrant worker allowed in, the origin country should take one of our chavs/pikeys/scumbags (delete as appropriate)

This has 2 benefits, it gets a chav off the dole, and shows them how easy they have it.

As most work migrants are from the EU due to them being pretty much free to move around where ever they want.
