So I pick up my mobile.

Him: Hello this is Peter. Have you got an 01 or 02 number I can call you on?

Me: Er yes but who is this?

H: Peter......

M: Who's Peter?

H: Well I can't really discuss that right now, but would like to talk to you later on on an 01 or 02 number as this is a mobile and costing me.

M: well what is it regarding?

H: I'll discuss that later.

M: Well I don't give my number out without knowing why. Is it something to do with cars?

H: Yes but I don't want to buy one.

M: So you want to sell me one?

H: No.

M: Me intrigued now gives him my number as I have more important things to do than chase this silly man round in circles.

Now my thoughts are someone trying to sell me something, but to be honest it seems a bit of a strange way to do it.

Hitman.

Any other thoughts?

It could of course and probably more likely be some berk wanting free advice on how to repair his car and not want to pay 15p for a mobile phone call, although in the long run given as he probably spent 2-3 mins on the phone anyway he could probably have had his question answered that way!

It was either Peter Andre, or Peter Stringfellow.

Sadly didn't sound like George!

To be honest considering the home number isn't actually my house merely somewhere I will be tonight and no actual harm can be done (unlike some kind soul sending me their mobile number to call the other day 070********* Yeah like I'm that dim) by him calling me didn't see a reason not too.

No, he's trying to get your landline number to confirm your address so he can come round and either:-
1) Seize money and goods
or
2) Kill you dead!

Have you upset anyone lately?

Which is exactly what I do when faced with an 0870 number and I can't find the real one on www.saynoto0870.com If enough people complain maybe the gits who think 0870 numbers are cool will think again.

Small point. He rang me on my mobile. I too think 0870 numbers are infuriating.

Fair point but surely you would say Hi I'd like to talk about XYZ but would rather not on 0870, can you call me back or give me a landline number please? The conversation as quoted is just bizarre and I suspect that is the last we will ever hear from the OP, unless there is broadband at the bottom of the abandoned mine shaft that the psycho has undoubtledly tipped him down by now.

IT ISN'T AN 0870 NUMBER FFS.

Normal mobile number. NORMAL YOU HEAR ME.

God you get one plonker who doesn't read the post properly sees 070 adds an 8 in out of thin air goes on an 0870 rant gets corrected then someone else follows him on.

shout For the last time it isn't an 0870 number!!!!

I have an hour and a half to wait and see. I don't owe anyone any money. As far as I'm aware not in any trouble with anyone. So quite intrigued. Plus he sounded like an oldish bloke too.
