Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe there is a state where it's actually illegal NOT to own a gun... Seems a bit nuts...

Hmm... never heard that one and I doubt it very much.

Most states don't require permits to buy or carry, even concealed weapons...

Is it just me or does this sort of thing seem to be happening more and more recently? It seems to be something similar every day now.

An 8 year old kid who has acess to a propper rifle or even an air rifle is always asking for trouble so in this case i think the father had it comeing to him, one way or another, just so happens that the outcome of his iresponsible parenting ended in his death and the death of his lodger rather than next doors dog...

I'd heard of it too. Supposedly to ensure everyone knows that everyone else is likely to have a gun.

A Kennesaw, Ga. law makes it illegal for every homeowner not to own a gun, unless you are a convicted felon, conscientious objector or disabled.
...still, whether it's true or not I don't know.

You cant just pick things out of a full sentence and pull them out of context, thats what the media does laugh

I think its Cobb County, Georgia that has a city ordinance that every household must have a gun, its not overly rigidly enforced though.

Georgia state certaintly has a carry permit requirement, I think most other than the agricultural states and Alaska have carry permit requirements.

Anyone with a driving licence can buy a gun/bullets though, I remember buying 200 .357 shells and a bag of Jolly Ranchers at the Big K on Piedmont...

Think Mike Moore (spelling? fat guy, beard & baseball cap) did something about it in one of his films... Wonder if we'll ever know the real reason. An 8 year old shouldn't really have murderous thoughts should they?

Gun control in the states is a tricky one. It works here because it has been a long time since we've had widespread gun ownership so there's not many in circulation. I'm not sure how well it would work over there. That being said, an 8 year old child should not have access to a gun, regardless of the other gun regulations.

shouldn't have, but did. same as in every other school shooting and the defence is always the same, shouldn't have access.

shouldn't, but did. this will only continue.

not got a problem with firearms, just the idiocy surrounding their use and sale. chris rock had it right when he said bullets should cost $1000 each.

I think a little more gun control should be enforced.

But not banned, just go through a similar process as they do here for the licence. Especially the rules for carrying them around.

Ahh ok. A lunatic county ordanance rather than a state wide law is easier to understand.

Surely the point is responsible gun ownership?

Why should the many good gun owners in the USA (and I bet there are millions) be penalised like the good guy owners in the UK were, due to the tossers who cannot exercise common sense?

Crikey, my gun has to be kept locked in a safe that is also bolted to a wall. And an official had to come around and check that it was safe before I was allowed to keep it at home (the gun that is). I guess if you keep it on a rack you are asking for trouble.
