Apparently someone has been in and pinched a load of the source code.

Its put release back 6 months to April 2004.

Maybe whoever nicked it will compile it and release it early?!

Seriously tho, that sucks.

Wasn't it some code from the game engine, but no graphics info. I read somewhere they got it through hacking someones email.

it's a 30MB file which contains a beta version of the engine. It doesn't have any graphics or multimedia elements so is essentially useless.

There is however, a lot of speculation that this is a publicity stunt done by Valve because of the delay... It does beg the question tho, why is there a problem - what difference does it make if the engine is released now or when the game is on the shelves?

And lets face it - come a year or so's time all of the MOD'ers will have reverse engineered the engine anyway.... just like they did with the first one.

Oh, and its protected by copyright and it was stolen so it cannot be used in any commercial game, so shouldnt loose any revenue. If anything it gets more publicity and therefore more sales anyway...

Arse.

This game was going to keep me occupied until GT4 came along.

This does seem a bit fishy, why should the source code being nabbed effect the release date. Are they saying they are going to re-do it all?!

yep. Pretty much.

I don't believe a word personally but then they have just done a $6 million deal with ATI and I'm sure they don't want to pi$$ them off so maybe...

that would explain why the game doesn't support the nvidia chip-set

You apparently will be able to play it, just without any of the optimization you would expect.

It's getting quite daft now where you have to have different g'cards for different games, makes me bloody mad it does!

It's not that it's specifically written for one vendor's cards over another, but it does make full use of DirectX 9. At this moment in time, the mid/high-end ATI cards are much better at DX9 than the nVidias. I'm sure with another 6 months of driver development, the nVidias will improve a lot in that respect.

They used to rule. I used to have two 16mb Voodoo 2 cards SLI'd. Was the dogs.

Was refering to the fact that some games would only work with 3dfx cards which hacked off all those who did't have them

Indeed, quite correct.

Before this game is launched nVidia will have their drivers sorted to exploit HL2 perfectly with all the toys.

Same here, now just have a 64MB nVidia GeForce MX 440. But I have an ATI Radeon Mobility in my laptop and I have had a look at games on both and it's suprising how many work better on the PC than the laptop and also the those that work better on the laptop than the PC. You can't win.

Damn I bought a Diamond Edge 3D back in the day. That was before Direct3D!

I even took Sega Saturn controllers and could play Virtua Fighter. Damn cool game!

I took it out a few months back because of a few driver issues and the fact i never used it.
Then I started playing GPL again so i blew the cobwebs off and stuck it back in again!
I paid £120 for mine, must have been about 5 years ago now!
