Asked in the business section but did not get a reply so will try here :-

I am working on behalf of my local football club, i am thinking of getting chip and pin facilities at the club to make it easier to get drinks and stuff.... At the minute we can't take card payments at all, just cash

Is this easy to do ? Is there a cost involved and do you think it is worth it for a small club like this ?

Funnily enough I'm just installing 2317 Chip & PIN machines for a certain large bookies...

Not sure on the cost for only one - but it'll either be leased or free. Phone up someone like Barclays or Commidea.

It's about 20 quid a month to lease the terminal from Barclays. Give Barclaycard merchant services a call.

We've got it in the pub, well we've got Streamline (sorry, I didn't look at that link so apologies if I'm repeating/contradicting). IIRC it's about £26 per month for a "wireless" one. Then there's a few on each transaction (I think, though that may be covered in the monthly fee). AmEx definitely charges.

It takes about 3 weeks to set-up, by the way. They have to do credit checks and the like.

I'll find out more from Landlady if you like as she set it all up.

Cheers,

Yeah that would be great... it is just for a small bar, club house sort of thing really but find it so annoying if i forget to get cash out... would be a lot easier if we took cards so there must be others who think the same !

As far as credit check goes, do they check the business account ?

Also it is a good idea to have either a seperate phone line or the latest ones can connect via Ethernet (ie broadband) and this is a MUST as otherwise the credit card will not be verified which of course is no good in the busy hours.
ETA: They are 'fun' to set up. But their helpline is superb.
