Great fun it is too. Especially with 3 friends over Xbox Live. Having said that, it's not worth more than £25-£30 IMO.

Got this last night.

Source engine feels pretty dated, just seems like a HL2 mod as opposed to a full game.

May just be that it doesn't stand up to Gears of War which has been getting a serious hammering recently on my 360.

£22 for pre-order on play.com

Not exactly pricey and looks rather tasty. Downloading the demo now smile

Edited to add, the demo whets the appetite for more. A couple of genuinely jumpy bits (hey its late and dark biggrin) and looks like a pickup and play kind of game rather than something like fallout that is there for long sessions.

You can play it on your own and the other characters are just replaced with AI.

On the other hand a decent graphics card for a PC costs more than an Xbox 360... Hardware costs more, games are cheaper..

£29.99 pre-order on amazon for the 360

downloaded the demo the other night and its the first game for ages thats got my heart racing while playing it. looks dated, but I'm sure slightly lacking graphic allow more 'horde' on screen at any one time, which is what its all about.

The 'director' in the full game should keep it different enough to have decent replay value too.

Loving this game, especially with friends trying to complete the campaign on Expert.

After 3 hours on No Mercy we ALMOST reached the hospital front doors before every buggered off for the night frown Oh well, always tonight..

£19.99 on Amazon for the PC. If it doesnt arrive Friday or Saturday I may be forced to sulk. The demo is short but bloody good...

Am i right in thinking its 2 player only on 1 console.. which, if true, would be a criminal oversight on behalf of the developers.

In saferooms throughout the campaigns there's doomsday writing on the walls and messages to friends/family etc...

On one wall in the upper floors of Mercy hospital, there's an embolded scrawl "No zombie is safe from Chicago Ted!!"

Prompt the steam forums brimming with Chuck Norris punts aimed at this 'Chicago Ted', who as far as I can see is no reference to anyone in history/literature/music/art/gaming/movies - But don't let that get in the way of very terrible 'facts' about him.

It made for cringeworthy reading, and I couldn't believe my eyes on turning the thread page to see a full 7 verse ballad of Chicago Ted. I was howling and cringing reading it, but it's surprisingly good! And it goes a little something like this:

The Ballad of Chicago Ted

we were fighting infected all across the square
the scent of their blood was in the air
a witch in the courtyard gave us quite a scare
and things only got worse from there

when a hunter grabbed bill and thrashed him in twain
francis was hung by a smoker as he howled in pain
zoey with her pistol and took careful aim
she fired 2 shots, but it was all in vain

just then, when all hope had been burned and bled
the infected all scream and turned and fled
clothed in a flannel shirt blue black and red
came an angel of Badass, named Chicago Ted

with his shotguns a blazing, he slaughtered that horde
till he got bored of that, and switched to his sword
his cap coated in blood, while us he ignored
for the thrill of the hunt was his own reward

now he was no chuck norris, dont get me wrong
but ted could do this crap all day long
the survivors lept up and fought along
but ted would do this work for a song

with corpses piled as high as can be
Ol ted light a smoke, and howled with glee
as he used his sword to carve knotches you see
into his belt, a thousand times 53

as a tank round the corner, we filled up with dread
but he just laughed an shock his head
with a powerful holler the wild savior said
"NO ZOMBIE IS SAFE FROM CHICAGO TED!"

it keeps getting better, eurogamers review is spot on... especially the first few paragraphs where the review recaps all the stories that come up as you play.

I was doing Death Toll last night and got all the way to the boat rescue (on advanced), we had cleared it out and was fighting off the final horde, but had been incapacitated a few times and was on the last chance before I was killed... with 3 health. All I had to do was jump onto the boat but I caught by 1 stray friendly fire (up until then we had been working really well as a team). Only 2 survied and got the damn steam trophy.

Co-op with 4 mates is ok, but the game comes alive when you're playing Versus - 4v4, all in the same vent channel shouting. Funny and absorbing.

So where is the cheapest place to get it? I'm on a budget and need some zombie fun in my life. Hoping that Sainsburys are doing it for £30.
