After reading the Phuket thread, there seems to be a few who are wise to the ways of Thailand and know where to go. I know my way around Bangkok, so that isn't a problem for me, but at the beginning of Jan, myself and the OH are off to Dubai and Thailand for 2 weeks, whilst accommodation is provided for us in Bangkok and Dubai, we're looking at heading to one of the islands.

My sister has given me a recommendation of Koh Lanta, it's also one of the islands I haven't been to before either.

So does anyone have any recommendations on how to get there, where to stay etc..? From reading, you can fly to Krabi then ferry it across, fly to Trang, then mini-bus / ferry it across, i think flying would be prefered choice, and have looked on nokair.com and airasia.com and flights are around 6,000bht for both of us.

We're going to be looking at staying for 7 - 8 days, needs to be cheap to stay, nice beach and not fussed about activities as OH will be recovering from an operation a month prior to us going away.

ye Bangkok to Krabi would be the best idea... I found when travelling round Thailand on a bus that its better to get the mini bus transfers as opposed to the stty venga buses. They are people carriers, much more comfortable. I have never been to where you suggest, but I have been around Krabi, and stayed at AO Nang, it not where your going, but in the unlikely event you do go there, don't bother.... its not very exciting/interesting to say the least...

All in all I cant help you much, but take the people carrier taxi bus things, they are slightly more expensive in comparison, but they are quicker and nicer.

Flew with Nokair -> Krabi very reasonable even though I bought a ticket a few hours before we set off.

Railey Beach is the best of the bunch down that way :

Phi Phi isn't as good after the tsunami, and Ao Nang is a road with shops selling (pretty good) snide watches.

Never made it to Koh Lanta.
