I have had a credit card from the company that advertises itself as a provider of water slides, for 25 years.

They wrote to me recently as the renewal date for the card was approaching. In their letter, they informed me that to receive my new card, I should telephone their delivery service as they no longer sent new cards in the post.

On telephoning the number I was met with an automated answering service which 'informed' me that they would deliver the car on the day that I required. However, I would need to be in my home between the hours of 9am - 6pm in order to receive it!

Now, although I spend 90% of my time posting weird photos on the "Fantastic Moments" thread on here, I do have to work occasionally. I cannot sit at home all day waiting for a credit card to arrive. Especially, as it is a back up card that I only use for emergencies.

So, I teleponed another number and spoke this time to a real person. He told me that they could deliver my new card to a business address. I informed them that as I work from home that is my business address, therefore, his offer wouldn't solve my problem.

Then I had a brainwave. My mother is in most days. I could give the chap her address and they could deliver there. He agreed only stipulating that she had proof of my identity - passport, driver's license etc - for the delivery person.

Problem solved.........I thought.

The delivery day duly came. And went. No card. I phoned the company. They told me that as my mother's is not a business address they didn't deliver the card.

O.K. how can we solve this? I enquired. I was informed that they could deliver to any branch of the bank that they were affiliated to. All that I had to do was go to my nearest branch and get a teller to call them with and it would be sorted.

Result!

I go to my local branch and I explain the situation to the lovely young lady behind the glass. She phones the card division. We wait for ten minutes and then are cut off. She calls again. This time she is answered and is asked some questions by the woman at the credit card division, which she answers. The phone is then handed to me.

The woman asks me a few security questions and then...........

..........and then, she informs me that, as the teller had answered her security questions incorrectly she wouldn't send my card to that branch!! Furthermore, she wasn't inclined to believe that the teller did, in fact work for the bank and could be "anyone".

I asked her whether she believed that I was trying to con the company? I also informed her that she would be sending my card to a branch of her bank so, short of armed robbery, I couldn't get my hands on the flaming card if it wasn't mine if I wanted to.

She refused point blank to continue the conversation and asked me to call again from another branch.

I informed her to shove her card and now have a Virgin card as back up instead.

Virgin send their cards by post.

What a PITA.

Companies these days do things to make your life, just that little bit harder.

did she think you were going to make a false front for the branch and intercept their mail, like the spoof card readers on an atm?

how stupid was she? (the water slide lady i mean)

I know! I was so stunned by her attitude that I didn't get angry. Unbelievable really.

Hmm...I wonder if that's why?

They can't possibly mess everyone around like that, or hardly anyone would have their card.

It's a possibility I suppose, but unlikely. I do pay by direct debit so they earn nothing from me except for the charge to the retailer.

If I agreed to stay in all day from 9 - 6 I would have got the flippin' card. SO, on one level, they wanted me to receive it.

I had a call from one financial establishment and was asked various "security questions". One question was the county I lived in. I said that, as I lived in Scotland we didn't have counties (and haven't since 1975!). I said that I lived in the local government area of Stirling Council, if that helped. No, apparently it didn't as that was the wrong answer, so he'd have to terminate the call.rolleyes

You phoned me, you fking muppet! furiousfurious

As it happened, the old county name was Stirlingshire. rolleyes Typical example of a call centre drone who was totally incapable of any deviation from the script in front of them smash

Bloody foreign call centres furious

For future reference, I would recommend not answering any security questions from somebody who calls you. Although, if you are in the habit of doing that, what bank do you use and what's your phone number? wink

It's always a favourite if a telemarketer calls you to ask them for their password with you, or refuse to answer their questions "due to the data protection act". smile
