The car is great in almost every way except that I ticked the sunroof option.

Above 75mph the wind noise is so bad.

Is this normal / common / any ideas?

Cheers

In many cases, the dealer will use a stock car and have a specialist install the sunroof - usually Webasco.

In any case, I would go back to the dealer...

First I have heard of that.

Wouldn't bother going back, they are loud, only thing that might possibly make it better is removing that insect guard thing..

I recently fixed a leaking sunroof on a 2004 model. Not a factory-fitted OEM part... Installation wasn't of a good quality which became very clear after de-trimming.

Try driving with the window(s) down at diffrent hights. In a lot of cases just having the drivers door window down a tuch can make a big diffrence.

On the hole the days of sunroofs being fitted to new cars by out side people is long gone. BMW would not be happy if it got a clame for rust and the deler would be in a lot of truble.

I very much doubt the twin tilting roof of the current car is aftermarket.

As I recall, all the R50/53's were *twin glass also? Far too big / designed for an aftermarket part.

(* - twin, but iirc, the rear is fixed)

I have seen the robots fitting the sun roofs at plant oxford! Take it to the dealer to check out. :-)

My wife's Cooper has the panoramic roof and we can only open it to about 80% to limit the wind noise.
