My Griff was first registered in July 2003, and has been wrongly classified on the V5 as a petrol car and showing a CO2(g/km)figure of 398.
I have written to dvla asking that it be re-classified as Private/Light Goods (PLG). However, had a letter this morning from dvla stating that "There is no graduated vehicle excise duty exemption for TVR vehicles when emmission details are shown on the first registration forms", and so are refusing to change it. I have just come off the phone to them, and they are refusing to budge. Despite having had a Tamora in 02, T350 in 03 and a Tuscan in 05, all of which were correctly reg as PLG, they are still claiming that if CO2 figures where suppled at original registration, THAT IT CANNOT BE CHANGED.
There was a thread running recently which i cannot find, but i know that people on here have had their classification changed.
They have given me the address of their complaints section(no doubt they all close ranks!)but does anyone on here have a name or contact at the dvla who i can contact to get some sense.
Thanks.

Contact Glow Worm on here he got his Tuscan II re-classified.
I think he came up against the 'it cannot be done' attitude originally.

Good luck.thumbup

I've just had mine changed by DVLA to PLG (2003 Cerbera) As someone else on here suggested I had to send the certificate stating that the car was built by a low volume manufacturer (supplied by TVR when the car was new). There was no argument and I received a new V5C and a new tax disc.

But that £400 tax rate only applies to cars registered after 23/03/06 so as long as it was registered before that it will be £210. Unless I am looking at the tax pricing incorrectly here http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/OwningAVehicl...

That's the current system with bands A-G, the new system will have bands A-M and will apply to all cars registered from March 2001 onwards, the 2006 stagger will remain in a temporary capacity for 2009/10 with the top band for cars built before that date being band "K" - then in 2010/11 that stagger will disappear and all cars reg'd since Mar 01 will just be in whatever the relevant band is based on their emissions - hence the Griff above will fall into the top band M by 2010/11 and will be due the full monty £455 per year... worth fighting over this one I think yes

Ah, I see now. Thanks. My BMW 728i will go into the top band too then. That one will be a vote winner for them then! Not that I would ever vote for this bunch.

If you know the Taxation Office where it was first registered, you could try speaking to them face to face...OK if it's local, but could be a pain if it's at the other end of the country.

They are sticking their heels in on this one. Just had a reply to my email stating once again that once a car has been registered as a petrol it Cannot be re-classified as PLG.

Even if the government do back down on the forthcomming changes, i would still like to get it changed and registered correctly, just in case they re-introduce it at a later date.

Anyone on here who has had theirs re-classified, have you got a name at the dvla who i can talk to, just keep hitting the brickwall trying to go through the ordinary channelsbangheadfurious

Don't have the name, but feel free to quote my car registration K14 UME, they changed it about 18 months ago and sent me a refund of £35. I thought the tax was going to go from £210 to £300 to £400 before the latest proposed changes. Check your car on http://www.taxdisc.direct.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/?SKI...
Vehicle Enquiry if its a PC not PLG and see what it will be next time.

Just checked the new Tax Disk was issued 04/04/06..£175 stating PLG, I had to return the Old PC Tax disc to get the refund.Think there's a photo of it somewhere!!! 'cos The Blackpool TVR Club took the mickey out of me for having to pay £210 biggrin

I had numerous phone calls before they changed it, but by sending the V5C to them, it forced them to do something, even if it was just to return it.

Sorry got the dates wrong...
The first Tax disk (put by the garage I bought the car from in April 2006 ) said PLG and was £175
The V5c arrived sometime after I took ownership of the new car, because its on a Cherished plate (I guess). and the garage taxed it locally, persumably DVLA were still producing the V5C.

A year later when I had to renew the Tax, it changed to a PC, I guess because it now went through the DVLA computer based on the V5C they had produced which stated PC, hence £210 charge.

I started chasing them in March 2007 and it was finally resolved on the 19th June 2007, so keep pestering them.

See PH thread at the time http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0...

PS In my letter to the DVLA I quoted the registrations of 7 or 8 similiar cars to mine that were all classed as PLGs.
