Whats the best road tyre choice

Not interested in any track work so what would be the best tyre choice for the road.I like lots of grip.

The Goodyear Fiorano are very good, & better to me than the Michelin Pilots I also had on the Ult.

Also - I Live near Staines anybody recommend a good place /price for fitting them? happy to travel..

They are good road tyres and brilliant track tyres, but the OP specified road only. You don't want to be caught out in the rain with them on, so I'd have to say that for the OP's question, Goodyear Fiorano F1s are the way to go.

I went from the Fiorano to Michelin PS2 this year and the car was transformed. The tramlining effect is very much reduced with the PS2s' as the side walls are much thiner. I thought the Fioranos' were good until I replaced them. Maybe yours were the Pilots and not the PS2. I have heard from a friend who has the Pilots and his car still tramlines.

Im trying to buy these tyres, Is it me or is it a nightmare to get hold of the Goodyears?

I've just fitted a set of Pirelli Corsas, initial impressions are a good all rounder.

You will most likely only get them from the factory.
They are very specialised so are not held in normal distribution warehouses. I suspect the factory buy them in sufficient quantity that they become a trade deal.

One of the performance tyre outlets I approached some years back could offer me a good deal then 4 days later came back and said they had been unable to get them from any of their suppliers.

I havent spoken to the factory, but all the tyre dealers are telling me Goodyear have stopped making these tyres?
Michelins seem available everywhere!

For road use personally I'd go with the Michelin Pilot Sports, I have them on the Pantera. They are a great summer performance tire that I have even taken on track a few times, one weekend where it down poured with standing water on the track. Hydroplaning at 120 at the end of the straight provides some real pucker up moments I can tell you. I run Pirelli P Zero Asimmetricos on the Ultima, but no matter what tire choice the Ultima demands respect in the wet.

AMEN to what Joules said about respect in the wet. I run the Michelins and I think they are great street tires. California has lots of groves in its freeways running in the direction of travel and I have never had a instance of tramming. Lee

Another vote for the Michelin PS2. I ran the Goodyear before but the Michelin has transformed the car! The tramlining effect has all but gone. It's all down to the sidewall of the tyres, the Goodyear sidewalls in my opinion are too stiff.
