Hey folks,

Unfortunately the time has come to part with the love of my life, my Tuscan. Really going to be sad to see her go but buying a new house has moved up on my priority list.

It's been a year of great motoring and have loved every minute of it. I'll still keep the www.mytuscan.co.uk site going and will be popping back in here every now and again to see how everyone is doing.

As for a replacement, it's going to be something boring as a runaround. Not wanting to spend more than £6-7k... any ideas?

J

Indeed, Chimmie is the most useable and painless TVR to own if you're buying wisely. smile

I've already had two Chims over the years - It's true... I won't find anything that compares to them or the Tuscan. I think I'm gonna have to go for something that doesn't drink so much petrol for now though frown

I would have done you a deal if we were 6 months down the line. As it is if you seriously looking at fun 'ish' diesels I'd consider the seat ibiza cupra tdi. Same as the fabia with big fmic, ap brakes etc. But I would say that, its been my daily for four years and 12 trackdays. Apart from blowing a boost pipe it's not missed a beat.

Unfortunately, that one still has the Opel/Isuzu tractor engine. Personally I'd be tempted to spend half that on a 2002/3 petrol model instead - you can buy a lot of fuel from the difference...

What's your yearly mileage if I may ask (sorry if that's been covered before)?

I do under 10k milage a year. Probably not enough to warrant a diesel. I'd prefer a petrol engine anyway I think although not too fussed if it's a decent car.

In that case, if you want a Saab 9-5 abofrickinglutely go for a petrol. None of the diesels is particularly refined and the best of the lot (the Fiat/Alfa 1.9) is a touch too small for that car.

All the petrols, including the base 2 litre low pressure turbo engine, are very nice (and the entry-level models are one remap away from an entirely more sensible ~200 bhp without any side effects, anyway).

What about something like a Skyline? Good performance and handling... only thing that puts me off is that it'll probably cost a fair amount in upkeep. There are some pretty nice spec'd ones out there for under £6k.

If I were to keep running costs at a reasonable level I would choose a Chimaera over a Skyline any day. All that technology and 500 kgs added weight will take its toll on servicing if you drive it anywhere near its capbilities, you're paying for ultra-wide 18" tyres rather than modestly sized 15/16", big Brembo brakes instead of boggo Ford ones etc. etc. If something breaks it will be $$$$ as they're all bespoke parts from Japan and it will likely be a lot worse on fuel than a Chimmie due to weight, AWD and the fact that you'll be treveling a lot faster to get the excitement out of it.

Great car, but not so sensible from a cost cutting perspective methinks. scratchchin
