Wasn't that the Lufthansa one that was all over the news? Pilot should have diverted but wanted to land near home. I seem to recall he did divert after that attempt.

Everything was fine up to 0.39 where he clearly panicked and tilted left.

Reckon he could have cut the power and slammed the rudder left and got on the ground before the next crosswind hit in biggrin

You can hear on the camera that between 39 and 43 seconds there was nothing, then the cross wind came back at 43. So 4 seconds to cut the power and get the wheels down would have been adequate.

Of course its very easy to sit here and speculate!

Anything you here on the news about airports is usually BS and the reporters have just asked one of the passengers. Some of the stuff i here on the news is so beyond the truth it's unbelievable.

So fake, its not even funny.

The speed of the bounce defies all know laws of physics for something weighing 30-odd tonnes.

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=b43lAoovqd8&NR=1 - is real...although the handling pilot was *she*, not *he*.

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=s5prz1Ae5QM - is real. I understand a certain airline about to operate Airbus routes direct from New York to London City are keen not to repeat that kind of footage...time will tell.

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=KjS80OeaxqY - is fake...very fake.

And landing where everyone walks away unhurt is a good landing.

If you can reuse the aircraft again afterwards then it is a bonus. smile

It helps if you don't generate a £32K repair bill on a £50K aeroplane though....pleased as I am to be getting my Pitts back, I think the over-used phrase about "a good landing is one you can walk away from" should be paraphrased with "...but only if your co-owners, after a period of reflection, and eternally thankful that no injuries were incurred, decide to spend an afternoon kicking you in the bks with hob-nailed boots, given that having trashed your Pitts you then walk away with a National Championship in a shiny new Extra 300.".

I would assume not - grown-up airlines are more interested in understanding why what sort of thing happens, and amending training and operational procedures to try and make sure it doesn't happen again.
