Now then.

Following on from my post regarding the trials and tribulations of getting my wife out of the house, away from the kids, onto a jet aircraft and thence, onward to foreign climes to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. I find myself in the unusual (or perhaps not so unusual) position of being awake at silly o'clock in the morning.

Ok, I have to explain at this point that it is not approaching 8PM on Saturday night here at all. In fact it is fast approaching 4AM, and may be well past that by the time I have edited this post into some level of English that might pass muster for a Grauniad article, although being Sunday here that would probably be The Sobrever, if such a thing still exists.

Please forgive me for a moment whilst I interrupt this post to open another window that can accept the supurious keyboard depressions that will be generated by my cleansing of my laptop keyboard. You see, the humidity seems to have had the (possibly beneficial) effect of lifting some fairly ugly-looking gunk from some of the less popular keys and I have, as a result, found what my wife's "Soft cleansing wipes for Hand, Face and Body" are really for!

Back in a tick.

so you've gone away with the missus to celebrate your anniversary and are up at 4 in the morning using her face wipes to clean up your keyboard!

WTF?

I think "huh" would accurately describe the noise I made when I first read the OP too. I may wait around to see if he comes back though.....

I know you folk probably think I'm potty, and in more ways than one, you are probably correct. However, jetlag, or timezone sleep disruption is an alien concept to my wife. Almost as alien as, say, politics, quantum physics, computers, what happens under a cars bonnet etc, the list is endless. But safe to say, if sleeping were an olympic sport, us Brits would have clinched another Gold in Bejing.

Right then, now that I can type without the fear of having to forshorten our holiday by contracting some, hitherto, unknown variant of ebola (for which I am certain there is an exemption in my travel insurance). I shall continue to bore everyone, as (most certainly, or is that "Yea verily?") that is what The P&P exists for. biggrin

Please excuse me whilst I raid the minibar...

Godammit! They forgot to restock the minibar with beer! What's more, I'm certain that I could buy a considerable proportion of Penang with what the spirits cost!

Anyway, in the ensuing choas, it would appear that, in the true style of British sportsfolk, the wife has fallen at the last hurdle and woken up. No gold for us then sigh! Although I suppose I could put her under again with some of my valium supply although I fear that the IAAF may have something to say about that though!

I'm not sure whether this thread has been brought on by (a) Sleep deprivation, (b) Sunstroke/Heatstroke, (c) Lack of beer last night or (d) Reading too much Clarkson.

If (d), then it explains alot, I was accosted yesterday evening by a chap whom announced that we had obviously chosen the same piece of holiday reading material as he could hear me chortling from the other side of the pool all day long, as I fought the urge to abandon the wife and hire a Jetski! biggrin

Following on with the "Clarkson" theory, I have to say, the latest volume (3) of "The world according to said Chap" is a bit of a wheeze. Although Mr Clarkson and I do differ in opinion on a few significant points so far...

Number one being his contempt for reasonably nice watches. Now I'm no "Watch Bore", there are far better members of PH to discuss the finer points of a 1950s Jaeger-LeCoultre, such as one that my friend recently had rennovated to it's former glory after searching the UK for a watch rennovation company that had the balls to take on the job. Others merely admitted defeat and said they weren't up to the job! Nor am I the kind of person to spend umpteen grand on something that (a) makes me look like a pimp, (b) looks like I'm wearing and alarm clock upon my wrist or (c) would result in me drowning if I tried to go swimming in it!!!

I do, however, own and wear on an almost 24hr basis a Breitling SuperOcean and decided (after reading Jeremy's scorn for this manufacturer) to check out whether, in fact, it was in any way deserved.

The results of my tests (which are by no means conclusive) lead me to believe that Mr Breitling is not fibbing when he says, "The watch is waterproof." But, by saying "Conclusive", I mean that since the pool is only 2 metres deep, I have been unable to test the full operating range of said timepiece because whilst it claims to be waterproof to a depth of 1500 metres, I can't see it going down too well with the Mrs if I have to spend the rest of our holiday waving at her from a decompression tank! biggrin
