Hi, a good friend of mine called into a breakers yard ( who does a lot of advertising on this site) near Wigan and enquired about the availability and price of a used TVR swirl pot, yes says the helpfull yard operative we have several still on the cars and shows these to my friend, okay how much are they? he asks, the man enters the office then returns and says £250...... at which point my friend felt faint and left the yard.

I've used them , or tried to use them, for a few things. I've emailed and unless it's a reasonably expensive part never get a reply !

You should be able to get a new one made as a one-off for around £100 and I bet there are plenty of TVR specialists who can supply them for far less than that.

Obviously when they said 'breakers' they meant 'TVR Main Dealer'...

There's opportunism and then there's greed.

A few weeks ago, I called one of the better known breakers about a power steering rack.
They told me that they would only sell me the complete setup, even though the serp pump would be no good on my pre-serp engine........

completely beyond me, no sale there then....

List price from the factory 6 months before the closure was around £125 for a brand spanking new one (I wripped the threaded boss off my old one trying to undo the brass cap).
They're a bunch of robbing barstewards, on the two or three occasions I've phoned them in the past for a price and availability of a "used" tvr part I have found that I could get it NEW and CHEAPER from TVRCarParts.

I found the northern breakers were about £80 cheaper than the southern ones for a chim fuel tank. It was only because their email got eaten by my spam filter that I had already ordered it from the later.

My experience too. Said wigan outfit tryed to charge me £20 for a wiper arm.
The excuse given was it was the cost of the time taken for someone to get one off the car.
So I went else where and wiper arm stayed on the scrap TVR.

Yup, same here, paid £120 for a new one in Jan. That's just unscrupulous and they don't deserve our custompunch

So presumably if you turn up in person and do it yourself they only charge you £2.50 scratchchin

Don't ask for a TVR wiper.

Take it off yourself. Smear it in the usual gunge on the ground.
Tell them you don't know what it's off but it might fit your old Transit, and offer them a quid. smile

Thats silly. Get an ally one and re-engineer the tank interconnect hoses to fit it. Either that or if youre able to weld, repair the old one, or make another one to the same pattern.

It's just not worth playing the game with these greedy people - much better to find another way.
