red is live
black is neutral

p.s. accept no liability if your hair now catches fire when switching light on!

I thought that said 'remote dinner', that'd be good.

red, and black can be live too in which case it should have a red sleeve over it! A light switch should have nothing but live in it though? (& earth).

Normally ( and sometimes people wire things up the wrong way round) Red is Live and Black is neutral.

If it's the back of a switch though, one is live and the other is the switched live back to the light fitting ( usually!)

Normally I would have the red as Live feed to the switch and the black, covered in red tape or shroud as the switched live.
