It seems to be fashionable to have one’s shirt hanging out, but if you’re a short-arse like me your opportunity to adhere to this fashion is limited by the fact that most shirts are too long to look right when worn this way. So what’s best? Being fashionable but looking silly (a bit like short-legged or lardy women who blindly wear hipster jeans because hipsters are ‘in’), or being un-fashionable but at least looking like your clothes fit properly? And should the fact that most of the people I mix with are in their 20s have a bearing on this? I’m 34 by the way (though I look much younger) hehe

Sounds like you might be a bit on the "rotund" side as well if the size of shirt you are wearing is too long i.e. you have to have a bigger sized shirt that what you should need for your height (I hope I am way off base here).

This.

I'm against this whole "fashionably scruffy" appearance - untucked shirts (when worn in a work environment with trousers, not when worn casually), jeans half falling down, etc

Get an untucked Ben Sherman, pair of school trousers and some slip on shoes.

You then have achieved chav smart, wearable at nightclubs, weddings, funerals and court appearances.

Work shirts should always be tucked in.

As above, get a nice belt some shoes that match the colour of it and you'll be fine.

Work shirts should be tucked in, obviously.

If you tuck casual shirts into jeans you're in danger of looking like a geek! (Before anyone complains, nothing wrong with being one, I just don't want to look like that NYLUG picture.)

Get some shirts that fit you!

WOrk should be tucked in nice tie, polished shoes goo hair and a nice watch.

Now on the other had if its your own cloths your wearing and you have a Polo-Shirt on with jeans i think the best is a nice belt, front left or right side of t-shirt tucked in a little bit.

Great – that’s exactly what I like personally. However, how do I make sure I don’t look like I’ve left my jacket in the car? What would make me look like I’d left my jacket in the car? Need to know so I can avoid it!

30” waist and flat stomach and generally slim build – no rotundness issues here… Just some shirts that have the right length sleeves seem to be too long to wear ‘out’. That said, the ones I’ve had made and which are based on my collar size are perfect, so more bespoke shirts needed methinks!

Can shirts still be worn tucked-in with jeans?

belts with a suit are naff!!

actually i'd go as far as saying belts in general are naff - means you got the wrong sizesmile

nothing worse than a tucked in shirt and a bulging gut!!!

I have pictures of Nicholas Lyndhurst with his heavy denim style shirts tucked in and he looks a right Rodney.

Proper suit type shirts tucked in, heavy "over shirts" out.

yes

Tell me about it. Some twunk in our office wears his untucked and he looks like a boy in his dad's clothing.

I personally wear my shirts untucked, no tie, top button undone - If I was in a more prestigeous job, or was wearing a jacket (and tie), I'd tuck it in, top button done up etc.

If you're talking about for going out in a shirt, never tuck it in.

Indeed, but if he were wearing a suit he wouldn't be asking whether to tuck his shirt in would he?

Shirts can be tucked into jeans (assuming they are the right cut of shirt). Tuck it all in though, the effect of one half hanging out is a little bit Beckham unfortunately.
