My Family at War....
Discussion
Hope its not a report - did the search but you know what its like!!!
But is anyone watching "My Family at War" on the BBC every night at the moment?
Superb programme.
Felt very sorry for Dan Snow. Amazing how much the war changed between 1914 and 1918 - the techniques, weapons and warfare.
However the film has got me thinking - i'd love to trace my families history in either of the wars...
I have no idea if I had any family members involved in WW1 but I do know that a great uncle was a desrt rat in ww2 - he's dead now and never really talked about it.
What is the best way to go about finding out about his history?
Cheers
Dan

I have the details of a researcher - PM if interested. He'll probably ask for a fee though.
Tactics certainly did change. By 1918 the Allies had invented the 'Blitzkreig' concept of coordinated ground and air attack. Unfortunately in the pacifist and naive years of peace that followed, we forgot, and the Germans remembered...

Thanks Simpo but I was hoping to do the research myself - not sure if this is feasible?
Just rewatching the Dan Snow one - the first battle it show footage off, is guys riding inot war on horse back, then a year later its trenches, machine guns, gas and 300lb bombs being dropped on London. No wonder his great grandfather didn't have a clue what to do.....

Have a look at the national archive - I found my grandad's WW1 record there - about £3.75.
There is a WW1 forum that has a lot of knowlegable people, there may be a WW2 one as well.
