I understand about other "green" issues, and even have green business interests, but I don't see why water is such a big deal to the green lobby. I guess there's energy to clean and pump it around, and if I lived in an area where water was scarce then it would make sense, but why are we being pressured into putting bricks in our cisterns in the UK?

a lot of our water comes from aquifers which refill very slowly, more slowly than we empty them.

if we got it all from rservoirs it wouldn't be such a problem.

to bail out the water companys.

They lose about a 1/3rd of the water they collect.

Cos we're hellbent on bricking over the entire country so that rainfall no longer goes into the ground and the water table but straight into the sewers.

If you live in the south of the UK particularly then water is (periodically) scarce, for the reasons mentioned above.

The point about it helping the water cos to (not) deal with their leaks is a good one, but since they'd only charge the consumers to fix the leaks anyway maybe it's the least painful option.

Surely with all this global warming, and the melting of the ice caps, we should be encouraged to use more water, so it doesn't get back into the sea too quick.

If not, we'll all drown.

You can have too much water you know!

Yep, all you have to do is get the salt out smile

As for water consumption, well, the more people you pack in, the more water is needed.
