I'm no expert on the Sony range although I know they are reasonably well regarded. I'd imagine the better "all round" camera would be the more expensive one which is the 350. Whether you actually need what that camera offers over the 200 is another question. Your money may be better spent on the 200 as a body, and the savings put towards a lens - which brings us nicely to your other question...

Are Zeiss lenses expensive? Yes, compared to an equivalent lens without Zeiss optics, they are.

And a better question might be "Are they expensive for what you get?" - in which case the answer is that Zeiss lenses are legendary!

Over at PC Pro they actually give the a200 the nod over the a350, and a bunch of other SLRs.

I can't believe the price an a200 (with lens) can be had for!

You may have found this already, but

There is a pros/cons bit on there comparing what the differences are between the 2 and it is much more than just a higher pixel count - it's down to money and what suits your uses TBH. I looked into all of this as I have a 7D, which is still a very fine camera, and a ton of top class Minolta lenses, I just wanted something a little less heavy duty to carry about..... I still haven't decided!!!

You get a lot of camera from Sony for those prices, especially when I think what I paid for my 7D, but I did get most of my lenses as a freebee biggrin

If it were my money I'd be buying the A200 and putting the extra £££ saved over the A350 towards the 70-300 zoom lens to give you the extra reach.

The A200 really is an excellent little camera and its at a ridiculously cheap price for what it is..!!

I'd go for the A300 (exclusive to jessops) extra £50 over the A200 but you do get live view
