3.2 v6 alfa engine in an S?

there's a guy on the PPC forums (owelly i think it might be) who does alfa v6 engines into all sorts of stuff, he loves them cos they're dirt cheap and look and sound fab!

what is the peak horsepower and at what revs? I imagine it would be about 200bhp at 6500? Will like revs alot more than the old essex and cologne unit. Would weight significantly less too! I think that's a good idea.

how about a 5.7 corvette engine? They go in TR7s easy enough (apparently) I'm sure that would be very interesting. But the 3.2 alpha v6 does sounds good, it produces 250bhp as standard but not sure how to incorperate the running gear

EDIT - Don't tell me the alpha is front wheel drive

How wide is it across the heads - the Rover V8 is popular because its a very narrow engine big heads won't fit.

I dont think the v8 clears the s2 bonnet and chassis mods would have to be made to the car, also the power of a standard 4.0 rv8 wouldnt be more than 220, i think the 3.0 or 3.2 alfa engines would make a very interesting car, and also suit the car's character. As pointed out about 250 bhp high revving and lighter than the ford units with great sound especially with a free flow exhaust
as for the 5.7 engine i think that would be too big for what the chassis could handle in terms of torque and also much more expensive proposition

just dont now if it would fit

Doesn't the Alfa 75 have a rear mounted gearbox in a transaxle ?

I've always thought a BMW straight six from the M3 would be nice in an S

PHer Blib has got a 3 litre Alfa unit stuffed in the back of his Stratos. If it fits in there I'm sure it can be made to fit anywhere. It would certainly be the loudest S around.

Not entirely convinced about the Alfa engine. I love Alfas - particularly the engines thereof (it came down to a GTV, Wedge or S3 for the last car purchase!) and I love TVRs, but I'm not sure I can reconcile the two.

why not? i think out of all modern engines the alfa v6 would suit the s the best in terms of noise looks and performance as wel as price!!

Really? I love them both, but I'd think of one as a scalpel and one as a broadsword.

I think we could be getting carried away here - in any engine conversion the biggest cost isn't the engine - its everything else that needs to be done to make it fit and work plus the bits that you hadn't thought of that bite you on the arse

Those heads are twin cam - I don't think it would fit in the S engine bay in a million years as its way too wide.

Well I think the V12 Merlin tank engine would be the ideal. Perhaps not very practical!!! I guess you could move the drivers seat into the boot
